Teneros Joins VMware Technology Alliance Partner Program

Teneros recently announced that the company has joined the VMware Technology Alliance Partner Program (TAP) as a Select Partner. VMware’s authorized resellers are able to provide simple, effective email continuity via the Teneros Application Continuity Appliances.

According to the news release, Teneros appliances are designed to meet the email continuity demands of today’s businesses. The plug-&-go appliances protect essential communications by assuring 24X7, ongoing email operation and access to valuable email data, calendar information, and email attachments that power business operations worldwide. This process is transparent to end-users. Client software (Outlook, Outlook Web Access, etc.) and access devices (laptop computers, desktop computers, mobile devices) continue to operate normally with complete email access and functionality maintained.

Teneros appliances incorporate VMware’s virtualization technology to facilitate their remote support, upgrade, and monitoring performed by Teneros’ Network Operations Center. As a result of including VMware technologies, Teneros can deliver the requisite levels of email reliability demanded by successful corporations today.

VirtualLogix Hooks Up With Freescale Semiconductor To Secure Mobile Commerce

VirtualLogix today announced that it has entered into a collaboration agreement with Freescale Semiconductor to create a trusted environment for mobile devices and other terminals that can be used in particular to ensure security of mobile commerce (m-commerce) transactions.

VirtualLogix VLX for Mobile Handsets virtualization technology will be incorporated into the Freescale Semiconductor i.MX31 multimedia applications processor to create an isolated Trusted Execution Environment (TEE), independent of the main application open operating system (open OS), which protects mobile devices from m-commerce security threats.

By adding VLX realtime virtualization on the i.MX31 applications processor, the open OS is securely isolated from a closed TEE where m-commerce transactions safely occur on the mobile phone or device. These measures protect against m-commerce security threats such as keystroke logging and phishing attacks.

Neocleus Raises $11,4 M in Series B Funding

Neocleus, a startup yet to release a product who recently unveiled its ‘endpoint virtualization’ strategy, seems to have been convincing enough in validating its approach to investors. The company has raised $11.4M in Series B funding (PDF) in a round led by Battery Ventures and Gemini Israel Funds, its original investors.

Neocleus applies virtualization to desktops and laptops delivering the flexibility, manageability and security needed to address different user scenarios within a dynamic, dispersed enterprise. The company’s solutions, which include a Xen-based open source Type 1 bare-metal hypervisor for endpoints, aim to enable critical IT tasks to operate in isolated, trusted virtual environments with complete access to the capabilities offered by the underlying endpoint hardware.

Neocleus was founded in 2006 by industry veterans Ariel Gorfung (CEO) and Etay Bogner (CTO) and launched last May with the announcement of the Desktop Hypervisor Framework, an endpoint hypervisor enhancement to the Xen server hypervisor that the company will be contributing to the open source community.

Most recently Neocleus announced Trusted Edge, the first in a suite of virtual software appliances that allows for secure access to corporate resources – for employees, customers and partners – regardless of the endpoint’s location or state of security.

CloudShield Helps Service Providers Virtualize Network Appliances

CloudShield Technologies, a provider of services management and infrastructure security solutions, has announced (PDF) a new release of CPOS, a packet processing operating system which aims to reudce the cost and environmental impact of implementing high-traffic converged IP networks.

The new version of CPOS enables service providers and federal organizations to run multiple stand-alone applications simultaneously on a CloudShield platform or blade, with the ability to share applications across different departments or with other organizations. The latest version of CPOS also features a graphical ‘Virtual Patch Panel’ configuration environment, enabling the installation or reconfiguration of virtual appliances without service interruptions.

To guarantee reliable service, service providers deploy these appliances in pairs each sized with surplus processing capacity. Each would likely have a different management interface. With CloudShield, all of these functions can be delivered as discrete applications running on top of CPOS on a single CloudShield platform
or blade. Also, the total amount of processing capacity can be reduced because surplus capacity can be shared across these four applications, thereby reducing the carbon footprint.

The new Virtual Patch Panel enables service providers to graphically add, reconfigure or re-sequence applications in real-time without requiring any network downtime. Previously, it wasn’t possible to completely repurpose a network device without taking it off-line or without dropping any packets.

CPOS is available immediately for service providers and national governments.

Citrix Integrates Access Gateway 1.8 With XenDesktop

Citrix has integrated its Access Gateway appliance, version 1.8 with its recently released XenDesktop virtual desktop solution. Citrix’ security solution will allow companies to deliver virtual desktops to users based on identity, location and security status.

Citrix said its SmartAccess technology, when applied to its VDI solution, will allow customers to deploy virtual desktops more quickly and more securely to users worldwide. Additionally, the gateway’s wizards have been extended to support XenDesktop. The configuration wizards now enable IS managers to automate common XenDesktop configuration tasks.

The 8.1 release of Citrix Access Gateway costs about $3500 and includes end user licenses for XenDesktop use.

Propalms Enters VDI Market With TSE 6.0 Beta

Last January, Propalms announced that it would be entering the desktop virtualization market this year with the launch of its Virtual Desktop Manager technology within its new TSE product. Last week, the company launched the beta version of its new TSE 6.0 (register here), with a final version coming out before the end of June.

TSE 6.0 (PDF) sits on the new Microsoft Server 2008 product, and provides customers with additional functionality in Windows 2008 Terminal Services, such as Easy Web Based Management, Virtual Desktop Management, Hyper Print PDF printing utility, Content Publishing and Redirection, Virtual IP, plus additional features.

Propalms recently announced that it had completed the acquisition of vFortress, a leading security solution company. The acquisition gives Propalms the rights to all vFortress customers and property; including the worldwide IP rights and source code of a Virtual Private Network (VPN) solution.
