Skytap Taps $7 Million In Series B Financing

Skytap today announced it completed a $7 million Series B round of funding from Ignition Partners, Madrona Venture Group and Washington Research Foundation. The funds will be used to bolster the company’s product development, sales and marketing efforts.

Skytap’s rapidly growing list of customers utilize its cloud-based virtual lab solution to augment or replace dynamic, high cost IT environments such as those used for application development and testing, IT prototyping, product demonstrations and technical training. By allowing users to scale resources on-demand and pay only for time and resources utilized, customers can immediately reduce costs, increase productivity and improve responsiveness to business demands.

Since emerging from stealth less than one year ago, Skytap has achieved strong customer traction and third-party recognition for its innovative virtual lab offering.

Citrix And VCs Invest Another $15 Million In Virtual Computer

Virtual Computer today announced it has secured $15 million in series B funding, in a round was co-led by series A investors Highland Capital Partners and Flybridge Capital Partners with additional investment coming from Citrix Systems.

The latest round of financing positions Virtual Computer to significantly accelerate its global sales and marketing efforts and further advance development of the company’s NxTop product offering.

NxTop, Virtual Computer’s next-generation PC management platform, makes it as easy to manage thousands of PCs as it is to manage one, dramatically reducing PC management costs while improving PC reliability and security. NxTop isolates the PC’s critical components — hardware, operating system, applications, and user data — allowing each to be managed independently in a highly-scalable fashion without a persistent network connection.

“This is a blockbuster funding round for any company, especially in this economic environment,” said Dan McCall, president and CEO of Virtual Computer. “Not only did our current investors show their continued support for the company, but we were able to add a proven leader in the virtualization market as a strategic investor. We are looking forward to working with Citrix to help make Xen a market standard for PC lifecycle management.”

Xeround Raises $16 Million In Second Round

Xeround, an Israel-based startup in the database virtualization area, today announced it has closed a $16 million round of Series B funding led by Ignition Partners and Trilogy Partnership. Also participating in the round were existing investors Benchmark Capital and Giza Venture Capital. The newly acquired funds will be used to increase sales and marketing activities as well as to step up research and development to advance the product roadmap.

Xeround has developed a live, scalable Intelligent Data Grid, a cloud computing database with data virtualization capabilities. With Xeround’s offerings, applications no longer need to know where data resides or if it is being managed with relational, hierarchical or object models.

“We chose to raise a round of strategic funding to help us broaden our reach in both North America and Europe and to invest further in sales, marketing and product development,” said Charlotte Yarkoni, CEO of Xeround, Inc. “We believe our business model and approach to data management will continue to provide a truly unique market offering that delivers the performance, scalability and flexibility to support numerous applications in the telecommunications industry and beyond.”

Neocleus Raises $11,4 M in Series B Funding

Neocleus, a startup yet to release a product who recently unveiled its ‘endpoint virtualization’ strategy, seems to have been convincing enough in validating its approach to investors. The company has raised $11.4M in Series B funding (PDF) in a round led by Battery Ventures and Gemini Israel Funds, its original investors.

Neocleus applies virtualization to desktops and laptops delivering the flexibility, manageability and security needed to address different user scenarios within a dynamic, dispersed enterprise. The company’s solutions, which include a Xen-based open source Type 1 bare-metal hypervisor for endpoints, aim to enable critical IT tasks to operate in isolated, trusted virtual environments with complete access to the capabilities offered by the underlying endpoint hardware.

Neocleus was founded in 2006 by industry veterans Ariel Gorfung (CEO) and Etay Bogner (CTO) and launched last May with the announcement of the Desktop Hypervisor Framework, an endpoint hypervisor enhancement to the Xen server hypervisor that the company will be contributing to the open source community.

Most recently Neocleus announced Trusted Edge, the first in a suite of virtual software appliances that allows for secure access to corporate resources – for employees, customers and partners – regardless of the endpoint’s location or state of security.
