Release: Oracle Solaris 10 8/11

Oracle today announced immediate availability of Oracle Solaris 10 8/11, which provides enhancements to Oracle Solaris ZFS and Oracle Solaris install technologies, advanced support for the latest SPARC and x86 systems and Oracle Database 11g performance improvements.

Oracle Solaris is an enterprise operating system, providing mission-critical availability, security and performance on both SPARC and x86 systems.

The Oracle Solaris 10 8/11 update includes new features, fixes and hardware support, preserving the Oracle Solaris Binary Application Guarantee Program to guarantee binary compatibility with older Oracle Solaris releases.

Oracle Solaris provides customers with over 11,000 third-party applications on more than 1,000 SPARC and x86 systems.

Ex-Oracle SVP Miguel Milano Appointed President, EMEA At Salesforce.com

Salesforce.com, the well-known enterprise cloud computing company, today announced the appointment of Miguel Milano to the position of president, EMEA and executive vice president, EMEA sales.

He will report to Hilarie Koplow-McAdams, EVP, worldwide sales, Salesforce.com.

Milano was previously an executive at Oracle, where he served as SVP, head of European sales for Exadata and the leader of Oracle Direct, EMEA. Prior to Oracle, worked at companies such as McKinsey, i2, Telefonica and PeopleSoft.

Milano holds a degree in engineering from Polytechnic University of Catalonia as well as an MBA from MIT Sloan School of Management.

Release: Oracle Virtual Desktop Client App For iPad

Oracle has announced that its Virtual Desktop Client App for iPad is now available on the App Store.

The app enables users secure access to virtual desktops managed by Oracle’s Sun Ray Software and Oracle Virtual Desktop Infrastructure.

The Oracle Virtual Desktop Client App is available for free from the App Store on iPad.

It offers simple, and accurate gesture based and multitouch operation with rich virtual keyboard support, including CTRL, ALT, ESC, Insert, Delete, Tab, Home, End, Function, Paging, and cursor keys.
The app contains a fast and responsive interface which allows multi-tasking and seamless switching between other iOS apps.

Oracle Virtual Desktop Client leverages Oracle’s ALP protocol to provide a high quality user experience.

User sessions are protected, even over public Wi-Fi connections, through 256-bit AES encryption and features auto discovery of available Oracle Virtual Desktop Infrastructure or Sun Ray Software servers.

Release: Oracle Virtual Desktop Infrastructure 3.3

Oracle has announced Oracle Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) 3.3, featuring an enhanced administration portal with role based access control, introducing Oracle Linux as a supported host platform and delivering increased performance.

Oracle Virtual Desktop Infrastructure is a complete solution for managing and accessing virtualized desktops hosted in the datacenter.

Through centralizing the hosting and management of users’ desktops, Oracle Virtual Desktop Infrastructure helps reduce administration overhead, lower total cost of ownership and increase security.

Oracle VDI adds support for Oracle Linux as a host /installation platform. Customers can now choose either Oracle Linux or Oracle Solaris on which to deploy Oracle VDI.

Guest support includes the latest Oracle Solaris, Microsoft Windows and other Linux-based operating systems such as Ubuntu 11.04.

Oracle Virtual Desktop Infrastructure 3.3 is part of Oracle’s complete desktop-to-datacenter virtualization portfolio that enables customers to efficiently and easily virtualize and manage their full software and hardware stack, from applications to disk.

Oracle’s desktop virtualization products, including Oracle Virtual Desktop Infrastructure, are certified with any Oracle Applications that are supported to run within an Internet browser environment.

Oracle Launches New Oracle VM Template For MySQL Enterprise Edition

In an effort to enable more efficient and lower cost deployments of virtualized MySQL environments, Oracle has announced the first Oracle VM Template for MySQL Enterprise Edition.

The new Oracle VM Template for MySQL helps eliminate manual configuration efforts and risks by providing a pre-installed, pre-configured and certified software stack that includes Oracle VM Server for x86, Oracle Linux with the Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel and MySQL Enterprise Edition.

By pre-integrating the world’s most popular open source database with Oracle Linux and Oracle Virtualization technologies, enterprise users and ISVs can quickly and easily deploy and manage a virtualized MySQL database server for Web and cloud-based applications.

Oracle Upgrades Sun Ray Software

Oracle last week announced Sun Ray Software 5.2. The latest release of Oracle’s server-hosted desktop software is simpler to install and configure and features improved video, audio, smart card, Virtual Private Network (VPN), and network resiliency.

Sun Ray Software is part of Oracle’s desktop-to-datacenter virtualization portfolio, allowing customers to virtualize and manage their full software and hardware stack, from applications to disk.

Sun Ray Software enables users to access virtual Windows, Linux, and Oracle Solaris desktop environments through any combination of Sun Ray Clients, PCs or Macs.

New enhancements in Sun Ray Software 5.2 include:

– Simplified installation and deployment
– Richer multimedia experience
– Real-time audio:
– Oracle Solaris IPMP support for greater resiliency and load spreading
