ScaleXtreme Announces Support For Citrix CloudStack

October 25, 2011 by Robin Wauters Leave a Comment

Cloud-based systems management company ScaleXtreme has announced support for Citrix CloudStack, the free and open source cloud infrastructure platform that helps providers of all types deploy and manage cloud services that are scalable, secure and open by design.

Customers can now use CloudStack to deploy and build a cloud, and then effectively manage it with the Citrix Ready verified ScaleXtreme.

Users can sign up for the free ScaleXtreme Xpress product, which offers systems management for an unlimited number of private cloud and public cloud servers.

“CloudStack is driving emerging cloud standards and bringing order to chaos of multiple hypervisors and APIs. It has had impressive success because it helps companies construct clouds quickly and reliably”
“We want to offer our customers choice as they build cloud infrastructures while ensuring that their cloud solution of choice easily integrates with other cloud technologies,” said Sameer Dholakia, group vice president and general manager, Cloud Platforms Group at Citrix. “ScaleXtreme’s support of CloudStack will enable our joint customers to effectively manage the entire lifecycle of machines within their clouds.”

ScaleXtreme makes managing complex systems easy. It provides a single, unified view to provision and manage servers throughout their entire lifecycle. Customers can access and control all their servers, whether local or hosted, in public or private clouds, through a single cloud-based service. Given that ScaleXtreme is hosted entirely in the cloud, there’s no need to deploy expensive software on-site.

Citrix CloudStack provides customers with the fastest path to the cloud by providing the most advanced software technologies for building highly scalable, highly reliable cloud computing environments. More than 60 large-scale production clouds have been deployed using the open source CloudStack, including GoDaddy, GreenQloud, KT, Nokia, Tata Communications and Zynga.

“CloudStack is driving emerging cloud standards and bringing order to chaos of multiple hypervisors and APIs. It has had impressive success because it helps companies construct clouds quickly and reliably,” said Nand Mulchandani, co-founder and CEO of ScaleXtreme. “We look forward to working with Citrix to benefit our joint customers, nurture our growing relationship and help users manage the entire server lifecycle.”

ScaleXtreme’s support of CloudStack follows its recent support of OpenStack and fulfills its ongoing commitment to give customers a choice in emerging cloud platforms. It makes clouds easy to create and easy to control.

How Citrix Aims To Drag SMBs Into The ‘Cloud Era’

October 24, 2011 by Robin Wauters Leave a Comment

Citrix today announced a new set of products, solutions and programs designed to help small and medium businesses move from the PC Era to the Cloud Era by capitalizing on the benefits of desktop virtualization.

Central to the company’s new SMB initiative is the release of an all-new version of Citrix VDI-in-a-Box, the all-in-one virtual desktop solution designed specifically for SMBs.

VDI-in-a-Box 5 is the first Citrix release of this desktop virtualization product following the acquisition of Kaviza in May 2011. In addition, Citrix announced a new solution combining Citrix VDI-in-a-Box and the Citrix GoToManage cloud-based support offering, making it easy for managed service providers and IT staff to remotely monitor and support virtual desktop deployments at multiple sites or customer locations.

Citrix also announced a new channel partner specialization for the Citrix Solution Advisor Program, called SMB Specialist. They will have access to an extensive set of sales tools, free online training and pre-sales support focused specifically on helping them successfully engage and service SMB customers.

Citrix VDI-in-a-Box 5 will be released this quarter. A free technology preview trial is available here.

October 17, 2011 by Robin Wauters 1 Comment

Cisco and Citrix Systems have announced that they have entered into a strategic alliance to develop and deliver solutions that help customers simplify and accelerate large-scale desktop virtualization deployments.

Through this alliance, Cisco and Citrix will drive innovations that simplify the deployment of high-definition virtual desktops and applications and improve end-user experiences over a Citrix HDX-enabled Cisco network.

The companies will also continue to enhance and build upon their data center solutions and cloud technologies to help accelerate deployment of cloud services.

In addition, the two companies will invest in joint go-to-market activities that will focus on driving primary product and services demand in high growth market areas such as desktop virtualization and cloud markets.

Release: Citrix XenServer 6

October 3, 2011 by Robin Wauters Leave a Comment

Citrix Systems has announced the availability of XenServer 6, the most recent edition of its server virtualization product line.

As a key component of the Citrix cloud computing and virtualization strategy, XenServer 6 brings new optimizations and improved scalability and performance for cloud infrastructure, desktop virtualization and networking.

Rather than attempting to force-fit cloud capabilities into existing server virtualization architectures, XenServer addresses these challenges by delivering a cloud-optimized virtual platform that helps cloud providers produce differentiated solutions that meet the needs of their customers.

In addition, by leveraging XenServer 6 with the recently-released Citrix CloudStack, users can be assured the core component of their cloud infrastructure has the network and virtualization optimizations necessary for the same scale-out architectures employed by the world’s largest and most successful cloud providers today.

Citrix “Opens Up The Cloud” For VMware Customers

August 29, 2011 by Robin Wauters Leave a Comment

Citrix Systems today announced a new edition of CloudStack, which will feature enhanced support for both the VMware vSphere and Oracle VM hypervisors, enabling VMware and Oracle customers to manage their virtualized servers as a highly available, scalable cloud computing environment.

Citrix CloudStack is not just a traditional enterprise server virtualization platform with cloud management layered on top, it is a production-ready, free and open source cloud infrastructure platform that helps providers of all types deploy and manage simple, cost-effective cloud services that are scalable, secure, and open by design.

The new release is based on the same CloudStack solution that has been used by some of the world’s largest and most successful public clouds to roll out new cloud services up to 50 times faster and at one-fifth the cost of alternative solutions.

This is the first release of the product since Citrix acquired Cloud.com in July.

Citrix CloudStack with support for VMware vSphere and bare metal provisioning is available today as a free download from CloudStack.org or as a commercially supported solution from Citrix. Oracle VM support will be available in October, followed by Microsoft Hyper-V later in Q4.

CloudStack can be deployed on-premise or as a hosted cloud service.

Citrix Upgrades XenDesktop

August 24, 2011 by Robin Wauters Leave a Comment

Citrix Systems has announced a new version of its XenDesktop product line (5.5) that adds many enhancements in personalization, user experience and rich consumer device support.

The new XenDesktop 5.5 adds the “Personal vDisk” technology acquired earlier this month from RingCube to all editions of XenDesktop, making it easier for customers to deploy highly personalized virtual desktops at a lower cost.

XenDesktop 5.5 also features the most significant enhancement in company history to its Citrix HDX user experience technology, enabling customers to deliver high-definition virtual desktops up to three times faster for both LAN and WAN users.

XenDesktop 5.5, XenApp 6.5 and XenClient 2 are available for download today from the Citrix website.

Suggested pricing for XenDesktop starts at $95 per user or device for the VDI-only edition. Comprehensive desktop and application virtualization is available in the Enterprise or Platinum editions, priced at $225 and $350. XenClient 2 is available standalone as a free download from the Citrix website and included along with the Synchronizer for XenClient with XenDesktop Enterprise and Platinum.
