StorMagic SvSAN Configuration Guides Now Also Available For Intel Server Platforms

July 30, 2009 by Robin Wauters Leave a Comment

StorMagic, a developer of iSCSI SAN management software for virtualized server environments, today announced the availability of a validated configuration for StorMagic SvSAN and VMware Infrastructure 3 for ESX 3.5 software on the Intel Server Board S5520UR.

This server configuration was developed jointly by StorMagic and Intel engineers through the Intel Enabled Server Acceleration Alliance (Intel ESAA), a collaborative program that streamlines technical certification and validation of Intel-based server products and enables Intel OEMs and channel partners to quickly deliver reliable, high-quality server solutions to their customers.

With the StorMagic SvSAN, IT administrators can turn unused storage capacity into a virtual SAN, benefiting from high-end features of the VMware platform such as VMware VMotionT, and building a high-availability shared storage solution for less than US$2,000. The StorMagic SvSAN also works with VMware vCenter Server to enable administrators to quickly and easily configure and manage the entire virtual environment from a single management console.

VISI Launches Virtual Dedicated Server (VDS) Product Based On VMware Infrastructure 3

July 29, 2009 by Robin Wauters Leave a Comment

VISI, Minnesota’s largest cloud computing, data center services and managed hosting provider, is proud to announce the launch of its new Virtual Dedicated Server (VDS) product based on VMware’s industry-leading virtualization and management suite, VMware Infrastructure 3.

VISI’s VDS product was designed to provide a higher level of security, reliability and performance than you can get with traditional hosting products. VISI has leveraged VMware’s High Availability (HA) feature to maximize customer’s uptime by rebooting a virtual server on another physical host in the event of hardware failure.

VMware’s Infrastructure 3 allows VISI to offer customers greater control and flexibility by providing them their own operating system (OS) instance. Customers are able to select the amount of CPU, memory and storage they need. Data is stored on a SAN-based storage system for enterprise-class reliability.

As a member of the VMware Service Provider Program (VSPP), VISI is well positioned to deliver knowledge and expertise to customers from initial pre-sales and consulting engagements to post sales support and implementation services. VISI has attained the following credentials as part of its VMware practice: VMware Sales Professional (VSP), VMware Technical Sales Professional (VTSP), and VMware Certified Professional (VCP).

Lostcreation’s Virtualization Mobile Manager Reaches Beta 1.5

January 22, 2009 by Robin Wauters Leave a Comment

From VMBlog:

lostcreations‘ Andrew Kutz is moving a mile-a-minute right now working on his Virtualization Mobile Manager (VMM) application.  Only a short time since announcing it, he is now ready with Beta 1.5.  The new Beta introduces three important new features thanks to Beta user feedback thus far.

  1. In addition to VMware Infrastructure 3 and VMware Server 2, VMM now supports the management and monitoring of Citrix XenServer 1.5.
  2. VMM now works on ALL mobile devices via its new Lite Mode. VMM will gracefully degrade itself to a zero-Javascript version if a fully-Ajax capable browser is not detected. You can now manage and monitor VMware and Xen from your BlackBerry, Windows Mobile device, or any phone with a web browser!
  3. Beta 1.5 introduces a feature we are calling Accidental Touch Detection (ATD). ATD prevents users from accidentally brushing up against a power button in full mode (as opposed to the new lite mode) and shutting down a VM. ATD requires an intentional touch (measured by a depression of 500 milliseconds)

Siemens IT Solutions and Services Deploys VMware Infrastructure 3

November 18, 2008 by Robin Wauters Leave a Comment

VMware today announced that Siemens IT Solutions and Services has deployed VMware’s management and virtualization suite, VMware Infrastructure 3.

Siemens has joined with the VMware vCloud Initiative by developing a virtualized private cloud environment with VMware Infrastructure to provide capacity on demand for mission-critical applications. Siemens used the VMware platform to build out its cloud environment, improve server utilization from 20 percent to over 60 percent, and reduce hardware expenditures by approximately 70 percent compared to the cost of building a cloud environment without virtualization.

Siemens IT Solutions and Services, an operating company of Siemens Corporation, offers consulting services, systems integration, software development, and IT infrastructure management. The business unit has annual revenue of $7 billion. Siemens is using VMware Infrastructure to help both internal and external customers address significant business challenges, including the need for green IT, cost reduction, business innovation, more effective customer service, and faster time to market. The VMware platform also gives Siemens cost-effective and reliable disaster recovery and a resilient application environment that enables delivery of service availability up to 99.99 percent.

Release: Veeam Reporter Enterprise 3.0 Edition

October 22, 2008 by Robin Wauters Leave a Comment

Veeam Software today announced general availability of its Veeam Reporter Enterprise Edition. The new offering is an advanced version of Veeam Reporter, the product for automated discovery and documentation of VMware Infrastructure 3 (VI3). Veeam Reporter Enterprise is the first solution specifically designed for reporting and change control in large VI3 virtual environments.

Veeam Reporter Enterprise provides unattended data collection and scheduled or ad hoc reporting, as well as centralized Microsoft SQL Server data storage to help systems administrators discover, document and report on all the objects within their VMware virtual infrastructure. Its client/server architecture supports use by many administrators, who can each see their area of interest.

Like the original Veeam Reporter, Reporter Enterprise collects information about the VI3 environment, its components and configuration settings. From this collection, Reporter provides comprehensive Microsoft Visio, Excel, Word or Adobe PDF reports for analysis, change control, documentation and decision-making support.

Veeam Reporter Enterprise is available immediately, with North American pricing beginning at $375 USD per socket.
