StorMagic SvSAN Configuration Guides Now Also Available For Intel Server Platforms

July 30, 2009 by Robin Wauters Leave a Comment

StorMagic, a developer of iSCSI SAN management software for virtualized server environments, today announced the availability of a validated configuration for StorMagic SvSAN and VMware Infrastructure 3 for ESX 3.5 software on the Intel Server Board S5520UR.

This server configuration was developed jointly by StorMagic and Intel engineers through the Intel Enabled Server Acceleration Alliance (Intel ESAA), a collaborative program that streamlines technical certification and validation of Intel-based server products and enables Intel OEMs and channel partners to quickly deliver reliable, high-quality server solutions to their customers.

With the StorMagic SvSAN, IT administrators can turn unused storage capacity into a virtual SAN, benefiting from high-end features of the VMware platform such as VMware VMotionT, and building a high-availability shared storage solution for less than US$2,000. The StorMagic SvSAN also works with VMware vCenter Server to enable administrators to quickly and easily configure and manage the entire virtual environment from a single management console.

StorMagic Gets SM Series Certified on VMware ESX 3.5 and ESX 3i

October 14, 2008 by Robin Wauters Leave a Comment

StorMagic, a developer of iSCSI SAN management software, today announced that the StorMagic SM Series has been certified with VMware ESX 3.5 and ESX 3i. The StorMagic SM Series is now listed on the VMware Storage / SAN Compatibility Guide, allowing joint customers to benefit from the latest VMware server virtualization features while being able to easily manage shared storage in their existing virtualized environments.

The StorMagic SM Series software brings enterprise-level iSCSI SAN capabilities to customer environments without the high price tag, allowing organizations with limited IT resources and growing data storage demands to store, share, manage and protect data through a single, easy-to-use interface. Mission-critical storage functions such as data migration, consolidation, and management are now accessible at a lower cost without compromising on performance and without the need for specialized storage skills.

This certification is part of the VMware Storage Certification Program, which is available to VMware Technology Alliance Partners. StorMagic is a Select VMware Technology Alliance Partner (TAP).

HP Buys LeftHand Networks For $360 Million In Cash

October 1, 2008 by Robin Wauters Leave a Comment

HP today announced it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire LeftHand Networks, a provider of storage virtualization and iSCSI storage area network (SAN) solutions who recently came out with some impressive numbers.

LeftHand Networks’ solutions enable midsize companies and remote offices or branches of large corporations to easily and cost-effectively protect critical business data. HP has agreed to purchase LeftHand Networks for $360 million in cash, subject to certain purchase price adjustments.
Founded in 1999, LeftHand Networks is privately held and headquartered in Boulder, Colo. It has 215 employees and more than 500 resellers and distributors worldwide. The company has more than 11,000 installations across 3,000 different customers.
With the addition of LeftHand Networks, HP will add midrange offerings to its suite of iSCSI solutions. Customer needs at the low end of the market will be met with the HP StorageWorks All-in-One Storage System (AiO) and HP StorageWorks Modular Smart Array (MSA) product lines. The high end will be addressed by the HP StorageWorks Enterprise Virtual Array (EVA) line. Customers will further benefit since LeftHand Networks’ solutions are already certified to work with a wide range of HP products.
The transaction is subject to certain closing conditions and is expected to be completed in HP’s first fiscal quarter of 2009. Following completion, the business will be integrated into the HP StorageWorks division within the Technology Solutions Group at HP.
