Tech Data Teams Up With VMware To Deliver VMware vSphere 5

September 13, 2011 by Robin Wauters 1 Comment

Tech Data Corporation has announced that it has partnered with VMware to deliver VMware vSphere 5 to its channel of over 60,000 resellers in the United States.

VMware vSphere 5 is available for live, remote, or virtual demos at Tech Data’s onsite VMware Transformation Center, providing resellers with expert-led sales and technical training to differentiate and optimize their businesses through offering virtualization and cloud computing solutions based on VMware technologies.

“VMware vSphere® 5 presents an immediate opportunity for VMware partners to capitalize on the growing interest in cloud computing by building secure, private clouds for their customers”
“We are excited to add VMware vSphere® 5 to our virtualization offering in Tech Data’s Advance Infrastructure Systems (AIS) group,” said Amy Belcher, Vice President of Virtualization and Storage Product Marketing at Tech Data. “VMware vSphere 5 is one of the industry’s most complete platforms and will enable our resellers to provide their customers with an efficient, simplified virtualization opportunity. We are also pleased to offer the VMware Transformation Center as a resource for both our resellers and their customers to experience the latest technology from VMware and other leading IT vendors.”

The VMware vSphere 5 virtualization and cloud infrastructure platform creates increased efficiency through utilization and automation, lower capital and operating costs, and quick responses to business needs without sacrificing security or control. VMware vSphere 5 and the company’s cloud infrastructure suite are supported by more than 25,000 partners, including technology partners, independent software vendors (ISVs), solution providers, service providers, and systems integrators, as well as every major global hardware manufacturer, helping users effectively respond to the growing needs of their business and gain confidence in their IT transformation.

“VMware vSphere® 5 presents an immediate opportunity for VMware partners to capitalize on the growing interest in cloud computing by building secure, private clouds for their customers,” said Doug Smith, Vice President of Global Partner Strategy and Operations at VMware. “In the VMware Transformation Center, Tech Data is showing resellers how VMware technologies can deliver cloud computing solutions for existing data centers, helping to dramatically increase efficiencies and business agility.”

The VMware Transformation Center is housed in Tech Data’s onsite Solutions Center, offering resellers the opportunity to demonstrate products and services from over 120 manufacturers and software publishers. Located in Tech Data’s corporate headquarters in Clearwater, Fla., the Solutions Center features a 6,000 square-foot proof-of-concept IT solutions lab with over $5 million in IT products. Hosting over 300 visitors each month, the Solutions Center also offers technology seminars, hands-on training, and classroom instruction.

VMware product demonstrations currently available in Tech Data’s Solutions Center include VMware vSphere and VMware vCenter™ Server, VMware View™, Trend Micro Deep Security and VMware vShield™ Endpoint, Cisco Nexus 1000v Distributed Switch, VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager™, VMware vCenter CapacityIQ™, VMware vCloud® Director, VMware vCenter Chargeback™ and VMware Zimbra®. Demonstration of the EMC VNXe series, an ideal fit for small- to medium-sized businesses, is also available through the Solutions Center. The EMC VNXe series serves as the virtual storage platform for VMware vSphere 5 and integrates with VMware vCenter Server.

March 27, 2008 by Robin Wauters Leave a Comment

Leading IT products distributor Tech Data and Parallels today announced an exclusive distribution agreement for the Parallels Virtuozzo Containers server virtualization solution. Available to value-added resellers through distribution for the first time, Parallels Virtuozzo Containers will further strengthen Tech Data’s AIS Division’s virtualization solutions offering.

“Parallels Virtuozzo Containers takes a different approach to server virtualization than many of the other solutions available in the channel, and by doing, so offers enterprises large and small a unique set of advantages, such as better per-server density and superior performance,” said Bill Portin, vice president of North American sales and operations, Parallels. “This makes Parallels Virtuozzo Containers an ideal solution for VARs deploying data center-scale virtualization or for those deploying virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) solutions. Working with Tech Data’s AIS Division, Parallels will ensure our VAR partners have access to the support, expertise and information they need to profitably deploy Parallels Virtuozzo Containers.”

VARs can leverage Parallels Virtuozzo Containers to enhance and deploy a wide range of IT solutions, including:

  • Server and Operating System Consolidation
  • Business Continuity
  • Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI)
  • Workload Management
  • Application Hosting for SaaS (Software as a Service) Deployments

“Server virtualization is clearly an emerging technology that offers VARs tremendous opportunities to grow their revenue and deliver more robust data center solutions,” said Amy Belcher, Tech Data‘s director, Product Marketing, Advanced Infrastructure Solutions. “But as quickly as virtualization is reshaping the IT strategies of large enterprises and small businesses, the server virtualization landscape is rapidly evolving with new and creative solutions like Parallels Virtuozzo Containers. The AIS Division and its team of virtualization experts are on hand to help VARs understand the latest offerings and to choose the solutions that best meet the needs of their customers.“

Tech Data & VMWare Take Their Partnership To A New Level

February 19, 2008 by Robin Wauters Leave a Comment

virtualization-techdata.pngTech Data has announced it will start selling VMWare’s desktop and data center virtualization solutions, in addition to its existing offer including virtualization solutions from Virtual Iron, Parallels, and Citrix’s XenServer (ex-XenSource).

Tech Data previously worked with VMware only through OEM agreements with HP and IBM. As of now, it can separately sell the desktop and data center virtualization solutions including VMware Infrastructure suite, VMware VirtualCenter, VMware Capacity Planner, VMware Lab Manager, VMware Workstation, VMware ACE, VMware Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) and VMware Fusion.

Senior VP and General Manager of Tech Data Advanced Infrastructure Solutions Pete Peterson got his first official certification and thus became one of 200 TD employees who can call himself a VMWare Sales Professional (VSP).

VMware will fall under Peterson’s Advanced Infrastructure Solutions division. In addition to 200 VSPs, Tech Data also has 10 VMware Certified Professionals (VCP) and hopes to double both numbers in the next 90 days, Peterson said.

“We’re really excited about this new partnership. They’re a $1.3 billion software virtualization company. Clearly, they are the market leader in this space. Virtualization is a huge opportunity for most IT shops today and a focus for our resellers,” Peterson said. “They say 5 percent of all servers globally that have virtualization software on them. Our goal is to make sure when we include it when we initially sell servers, but there’s also a huge install base that we have an opportunity to sell into as well.”

Tech Data joins Avnet, Arrow Electronics, Ingram Micro Inc. and Lifeboat Distribution as VMware distributors in the U.S.
