Industry Moves: Maurizio Carli Joins VMware As General Manager EMEA

VMware announced today the appointment of Maurizio Carli as General Manager of VMware’s Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region. Carli is responsible for strategic planning, business operations and management of key functions for the region, including sales, channels, services and marketing. He will report directly to Carl Eschenbach, Executive Vice President of Worldwide Field Operations, for VMware.

Carli brings more than 20 years of experience in the technology industry and knowledge of the EMEA region across several technology waves and economic cycles, including experience in emerging markets. He joins VMware from his most recent role as EMEA Managing Director for Google Enterprise. His prior roles include Senior Vice President and General Manager, EMEA for Business Objects and Vice President of the EMEA Software Group for IBM.

Industry Moves: MokaFive CEO Out After Only A Year

Desktop virtualization company MokaFive saw CEO Bill Demas leave over the Summer to join advertising startup Turn. The experienced Dale Fuller has replaced him, which speaks volumes about MokaFive’s ambition.

Fuller served as interim CEO at McAfee for 1,5 years, was CEO at Borland and worked as Vice President of Macbook division at Apple. Fuller is also on the board of directors of AVG and covered the same role in Phoenix Technologies.

Industry Moves: Susan Roberts Is The New Senior Director of Marketing For Virtual Iron

After Virtual Iron saw his longtime marketing executive Mike Grandinetti leave for his own venture in May, it went looking for someone to replace him, and it now looks as if they’ve found just the woman for the job.

Susan Roberts will replace Grandinetti as Senior Director of Marketing, after a career at Dassault Systems where she was Director of Global Branding and Marketing Communications and Paxonix where she was Director of Marketing.

Industry Moves: VMware And Virtual Iron Lose Key Executives

VMware has lost a key executive today with the departure of Nand Mulchandani, former Senior Director of Security Products, who has decided to take on a job as CEO for OpenDNS instead of staying on at the troubled virtualization leader.

Virtual Iron has lost its Director of Corporate Marketing Tim Walsh, who started his own consulting business.

Industry Moves: Stephen Pollack Joins Embotics Advisory Board

Embotics today announced the appointment of Stephen Pollack to its Advisory Board. Stephen Pollack is a recognized leader in the virtualization industry who founded PlateSpin (acquired by Novell earlier this year). With the addition of Pollack, the Advisory Board will continue to help guide Embotics’ direction, organization and strategy for product and company growth.

With over 25 years of relevant experience, Stephen is a seasoned entrepreneur and proclaimed expert in virtualization who will assist the Embotics Advisory Board with product planning, organizational strategy and investor relations. He founded PlateSpin in 2003 and grew the company from a startup until its industry-renowned acquisition by Novell.

Prior to PlateSpin, Stephen held a variety of technology leadership roles across sales, marketing, services, support and product management. He has been instrumental in the growth of successful global ventures, including his roles as Director of Product Marketing and Customer Services at Fulcrum Technologies, Business Unit Director of IT Asset Management Solutions at NCR and most recently, VP of Product Management at FloNetwork.

Industry Moves: Tony Asaro Out As Chief Strategy Officer For Virtual Iron

According to Alessandro, Virtual Iron just lost its Chief Strategy Officer Tony Asaro, although it seems he’s remaining a Senior Advisor to the company. We reported on his hiring nearly 8 months ago.

Asaro used to be a senior analyst and consultant for the Enterprise Strategy Group (ESG), in which role he worked as a trusted advisor to technology start-ups, emerging vendors and multi-billion dollar companies.

Sandeep Bhangi, Vice President of Corporate Development & Strategic Alliances, will be assuming his role from now on.
