VirtualLogix Enters Strategic Partnership With 6WIND
As a result of a new strategic partnership with 6WIND, active in embedded multicore networking software, VirtualLogix today announced the industry’s first solution allowing network equipment providers (NEPs) to bring advanced network elements such as 4G wireless base stations or smart media gateways to market faster, ultimately speeding the delivery of Internet Protocol (IP) multimedia services to end-users.
The solution, featuring 6WINDGate multicore networking software suites, together with VirtualLogix VLX virtualization and Linux running natively on Texas Instruments (TI) C6000 multicore Digital Signal Processors (DSPs), allows multi-plane consolidation, resulting in a reduced bill of materials and lower power consumption. VirtualLogix has announced VLX real-time virtualization software support for the Multicore Association’s recently approved specification for Multicore Communications API (MCAPI).
MCAPI has been defined to flexibly support hundreds of processor cores and systems with tight memory constraints, fast task execution times, reliable on-chip interconnect and high system throughput requirements. By supporting the MCAPI specification within VLX, customers are able to apply this same flexibility and scalability to virtualized environments allowing them to easily migrate applications from a physical multicore system to one implemented with VirtualLogix VLX virtualization software via this industry accepted API.

VirtualLogix VLX Adds Support for Intel-Based Mobile Internet Devices
VirtualLogix (previous coverage) today announced that its VLX virtualization solution will be supporting the latest Intel Atom processor Z5XX series-based Mobile Internet Devices (MIDs).
Device makers using VLX on these MIDs can simplify hardware designs, reduce costs and enhance the end-user experience through improved quality of voice, multimedia services and stronger security capabilities. VirtualLogix VLX also offers complete power management support for virtualized environments, which reduces MIDs’ overall energy consumption.
The demand for next-generation devices is expanding. In a recent report, “Mobile Internet Device (MID) & Chip Market Opportunities,” Forward Concepts forecasted MID shipment growth from 305,000 units in 2008 to 39.6 million units in 2012.

VirtualLogix today announced something called “Carrier Grade Virtualization”, which it claims is the industry’s first solution that meets the performance, security, serviceability and availability needs of next generation, multicore-based carrier grade systems.
VirtualLogix says Carrier Grade Virtualization reduces the cost and complexity of maintaining carrier grade properties in edge and core network elements such as IP Multimedia System (IMS) nodes. According to the news release, networking and telecommunication OEMs can reuse existing investments in their carrier grade systems while gaining the benefits of using VirtualLogix VLX real-time virtualization software (faster adoption of multicore architectures and consolidation of hardware, reduced bill of materials, increased availability, improved time to market, and more efficient designs as a result).
VirtualLogix Carrier Grade Virtualization technology integrates High-Availability software with real-time virtualization in a multicore environment, and allows HA middleware to manage not only applications and hardware but also virtual machines running their own operating systems.
VirtualLogix also announced they are joining the Service Availability Forum.

VirtualLogix Now Supports Windows Vista
VirtualLogix yesterday announced support for Microsoft Windows Vista to operate side-by-side with real-time operating systems (RTOS) for performance critical systems.
“VirtualLogix VLX now offers support of Windows Vista, offering high-performance, simple designs and an immediate return on investment to a wide set of real-time systems, in applications such as automotive, industrial and medical equipment,” said Peter Richards, CEO, VirtualLogix. “Key customers have asked that we provide Vista on our VLX roadmap and we have delivered. This enables VLX to support a wider spectrum of systems using Microsoft’s operating systems as a core solution component.”
Windows Vista is now supported on Intel processors for VLX Embedded and VLX for Network Infrastructure —all of which maintain the time-sensitive control and signal processing functions that communications devices demand.
