NextIO Strikes Partnership with Avnet Technology Solutions

NextIO today announced that it has entered into an agreement with Avnet Technology Solutions, the operating group of Avnet. Under the terms of the agreement, Avnet will act as NextIO’s primary integration partner and exclusive distributor of NextIO’s I/O virtualization solutions to its IBM reseller partners in the United States and Canada.

The NextIO Express Connect product provides an all-encompassing I/O solution for today’s dynamic data center. NextIO provides customers with the largest breadth of server I/O choice for any-to-any connectivity without the need to change existing infrastructure and lays the foundation for I/O virtualization in any server environment. Express Connect enables servers to access many more I/O devices than are available by default. Server I/O devices are contained in the NextIO Express Connect appliance and are accessed by multiple servers as a flexible and dynamic pool of I/O resources.

NextIO provides customers with cost savings, flexibility and manageability, while protecting their existing infrastructure investments. As the industry leader in next-generation I/O virtualization solutions, NextIO provides enterprise-class servers with faster installations, network transparent I/O upgrades, minimal service disruptions, and less operational management overhead.

3PAR Announces Cloud-Agile Partner Program

3PAR announced today the 3PAR Cloud-Agile program, a new partnership initiative to promote the adoption of cloud computing and cloud-based services offered by leading providers with infrastructures powered by 3PAR Utility Storage. The 3PAR Cloud-Agile program gives partners the opportunity to promote differentiated virtual private array (VPA) and disaster recovery (DR) offerings under the respective names 3PAR Cloud-Agile: SECURED and 3PAR Cloud-Agile: ASSURED.

3PAR created the Cloud-Agile program in response to an increase in demand for enterprise IT delivered as a utility service and a corresponding uptake in 3PAR Utility Storage adoption among leading IT hosting providers. Seven of the world’s top 10 revenue-generating managed service providers as identified by the “Winter 2009 Managed Hosting Report” issued by Tier1 Research use 3PAR Utility Storage as the storage foundation for their cloud-based service offerings.

The Cloud-Agile program is designed to raise awareness for the cost and agility benefits of cloud computing services and encourage the development of a mutually beneficial, robust cloud computing ecosystem. Program participation is limited to leading hosting providers using 3PAR Utility Storage as a strategic element of their cloud-based service offerings.

3PAR Cloud-Agile program participants such as Attenda, DataPipe, Terremark, and Verizon Business say their utility storage infrastructures — built on 3PAR InServ® Storage Servers — have enabled them to distinguish themselves with an agility that is lacking from others in their market. These companies share a significant investment in 3PAR Utility Storage, which has provided a strategic advantage by enabling them to handle unpredictable growth, control costs, accelerate book-to-bill cycles, assure service levels, and efficiently deliver value-added services. For these companies, service request response times have been reduced to minutes versus days, weeks, or even months with 3PAR.

For 3PAR Cloud-Agile partners, 3PAR Utility Storage has also contributed to savings on facilities and infrastructure costs while significantly reducing storage administration time. This has meant improved time-to-revenue, lower storage total cost of ownership (TCO), and tighter alignment between costs and revenues. For example, in a survey of 3PAR’s cloud computing service provider customers, 69% of IT organizations estimated that, by using 3PAR Utility Storage to power their cloud computing services, they have saved 40% or more in total capacity as compared to traditional storage alternatives.

Under the terms of the program, participants receive expert technical training to enhance the quality of the cloud-based services that these providers are able to offer to end users. The program also offers a combination of lead sharing, sales training, and joint marketing to increase selling opportunities and grow awareness of the benefits of cloud computing. In addition, under the program, participating providers have the opportunity to offer enhanced services built on 3PAR Utility Storage under the names 3PAR Cloud-Agile: SECURED and 3PAR Cloud-Agile: ASSURED.

Lifeboat Distribution Offers Fresh Virtualization Solution Bundle, Courtesy Of DataCore and Virtual Iron

DataCore and Virtual Iron today announced that distributor Lifeboat Distribution has unveiled a new promotion for their resellers when they purchase DataCore and Virtual Iron licenses together. Lifeboat will provide their resellers with additional margin and marketing support for selling the new bundle. Lifeboat Distribution is an international specialty software distributor for virtualization and other technically sophisticated products.

Services and solutions provider TelosIT already delivers solutions that combine DataCore with Virtual Iron. “Lifeboat’s decision to offer additional margin for using DataCore in conjunction with Virtual Iron is something we will leverage,” said Kevin Carlson, CTO, TelosIT. “This represents a very cost-effective option for resellers and the resellers taking advantage of this opportunity will soon see just what high performance solutions are possible when combining these two robust offerings.”

TelosIT has already enabled Matrix Design Group, an interdisciplinary firm providing professional engineering consulting to expand capacity and achieve dual-site data redundancy, while saving tens of thousands on lease renewals on its previous generation SAN with DataCore and Virtual Iron.

“With DataCore and Virtual Iron in place both administration and management were simplified greatly and I was able to further reduce my IT spending,” said Eric W. Smith, vice president, Matrix Design Group.

EMC And Microsoft Extend Alliance On Virtualization And More

EMC and Microsoft have announced a three-year extension of their strategic alliance through 2011.

The two companies are committing to broader and deeper product interoperability and service delivery to address key customer requirements including virtualization, security and content management through the powerful combination of Microsoft’s data center solutions and productivity applications with EMC’s information infrastructure solutions and consultancy. As a result, joint customers will benefit from more productive and less costly dynamic IT infrastructures that can effectively respond to today’s rapidly changing business requirements and economic constraints.

At an invitation-only event for chief information officers and other IT executives, Joe Tucci and Steve Ballmer discussed how the two companies will continue to deliver value to mutual customers through collaboration including a deeper focus on storage and protection of information in virtualized environments, increased productivity through centralized management of content, and leading-edge security solutions to prevent data breaches.

Building efficient and dynamic IT infrastructures is a top priority for organizations across the globe. The two companies work together in many ways to help organizations achieve efficiencies. In recent years, technology advances in server virtualization, tiered storage and IT management have become key elements in IT planning, offering a range of benefits, from lower hardware, software and personnel costs to improved reliability and enterprise-class manageability and performance.

Microsoft offers one of the fastest-growing and most cost-effective virtualization solutions from the desktop to the datacenter, including the ability to manage both physical and virtual environments from a centralized management console. EMC’s technology solutions enable storage, protection and management of information in Microsoft virtualized environments including Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V, Microsoft System Center, and jointly supported mission-critical workloads such as Microsoft Exchange Server, Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft SharePoint Server. IT environments are increasingly reliant on their corporate information, meaning data loss, data unavailability or data corruption of any kind can cause severe business challenges. The two companies will collaborate on building information protection solutions across the Microsoft application. An example of this is how EMC and Microsoft are responding to the new demands of information security, including a record number of data breaches, by building industry-leading Data Loss Prevention (DLP) technologies from RSA®, the security division of EMC, into the Microsoft platform and future information protection products. The collaboration is designed to empower organizations to centrally define information security policy, identify and classify sensitive data virtually anywhere in the infrastructure, and use a range of controls to protect data at the network, data center and endpoint levels.

As a first step, the new RSA DLP Suite 6.5 has been engineered with tight interoperability with Microsoft Active Directory Rights Management Services. As a result security managers can successfully implement information access and usage polices throughout the datacenter and on endpoints based on the sensitivity of information. Microsoft will continue to integrate data-loss prevention technology from RSA into its products to enable security managers to help monitor sensitive data and block unauthorized use.

Cisco Partners With VMware For Its MDS SANs

As part of its Data Center 3.0 strategy, Cisco is collaborating with VMware to deliver a tested and validated solution for Cisco MDS storage area networks (SANs) designed specifically to help customers improve the security, scalability and management of storage networks attached to VMware environments. The Cisco vision for Data Center 3.0 entails the real-time, dynamic orchestration of infrastructure services from shared pools of virtualized server, storage and network resources, while optimizing application performance, service levels, efficiency and collaboration.

The combined solution of Cisco MDS SANs with VMware’s Virtual Datacenter OS (VDC-OS) helps customers to more easily implement storage consolidation, disaster recovery, business continuity and storage backup solutions, as well as improve the visibility, security, and traffic isolation of applications.

VMware provides this functionality as part of the VDC-OS, which increases ROI while enabling the flexibility customers need to build next-generation data centers that are highly elastic, self-managing and self-healing. Cisco MDS SANs can now be virtual machine-optimized, delivering a resilient, high-performance fabric to support large, dense virtual environments by providing consistent policy, visibility, and diagnostics for virtual machines across the data center.

Cisco SANs optimized by VMware provide security, mobility, performance monitoring and capacity planning at the virtual machine level, enabling IT managers to better monitor, manage, and scale SAN-attached virtual machines. For example, IT managers can now move, add or change servers without reconfiguring SAN switches or storage arrays, and servers can retain their SAN identity even when moved or replaced in the server chassis.

Cisco and VMware also jointly offer virtualization consulting services to help customers create and deploy server, network and storage virtualization solutions that can reduce cost by provisioning new applications quickly and more safely, while maintaining high levels of application performance.

NetQoS Expands Partnerships Globally

NetQoS has expanded its global reseller and system integrator network with new partnerships in Africa, the Middle East, Asia Pacific, Europe, and Latin America. Combined with a dedicated NetQoS international sales team, the partnerships will help NetQoS build and support its growing global client base with products and services that enable large organizations to optimize their networks for application performance.

In Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America, NetQoS is working with MICROmega Technologies (MMT), based in Johannesburg, South Africa. MMT will help NetQoS expand its regional presence through an established network of Cisco Gold Partners and the expertise to deploy and integrate the NetQoS Performance Center in customer environments.

NetQoS is also expanding its presence in Asia Pacific through a strategic partnership with NetFrontier. Working closely with NetFrontier, NetQoS will build on its success in the region by helping companies in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan improve network performance and application delivery.

In addition to new partnerships in emerging markets, NetQoS has expanded its European sales efforts recently with new partnerships in France, Sweden, and the UK. NetQoS complements its reseller network with direct sales staff in the UK, Germany, and Singapore. During the first half of 2008, NetQoS increased EMEA revenues 160 percent year-over-year.
