September 27, 2011 by Robin Wauters 3 Comments

Advancing its vision for the future of applications in the post-PC era, VMware today announced new iPad and updated Android applications from SlideRocket and Socialcast that will help modern businesses empower a more agile, productive and connected enterprise.

SlideRocket and Socialcast’s mobile applications address a need to equip the connected enterprise with user-centric communication and collaboration tools that enhance business outcomes.

SlideRocket transforms presentations to better fit the needs of today’s enterprise with enhanced graphic capabilities, analytics and viewing patterns, real-time feedback, social media integration, and mobile functionality that drive deeper levels of engagement, audience participation and retention.

With the new, free SlideRocket Player iPad app, users can share engaging presentations, whether presenting to an audience across the table or across the globe. People can also invite someone to view a presentation from a simple link.

Nimbula, the ‘Cloud Operating System Company’, today announced the immediate availability of Nimbula Director 1.5, an Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) for managing compute and storage resources.

The software helps enterprises and service providers build powerful private, public and hybrid cloud infrastructure.

Nimbula Director 1.5 supports a geographically distributed cloud. The software can manage this multi-site cloud from a single view. This dramatically improves the cloud experience for end users because they now have a single login from which they can access any resource worldwide and deploy their workloads to any site in a self-service manner.

Today, Nimbula announced partnerships with Atalanta Systems, Electric Cloud and Standing Cloud in order to provide the optimal platform for developers to build and deploy applications.

Nimbula also announced partnerships with Gluster and Scality to expand Nimbula Director’s support for persistent storage solutions with storage leaders.

Nimbula Director 1.5 pricing and packaging remain unchanged.

For deployments on infrastructure up to and including 40 cores, Nimbula Director is licensed free of charge. A paid support option is available for users of the free version. For deployments on infrastructure with more than 40 cores, Nimbula Director is licensed on an annual subscription basis and includes both maintenance and support services.

Route1 Offers Identity Assurance, Security For Desktop Virtualization

September 22, 2011 by Robin Wauters Leave a Comment

Route1, a security and identity management company, today reported the success of its TruOFFICE Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) solution, which it says answers the call from enterprise and government organizations for secure, remote desktop management.

TruOFFICE VDI, powered by Route1’s patented identity assurance and management technology, integrates directly into traditional desktop virtualization solutions to offer an unparalleled level of security.

Unlike other offerings that authenticate only against a remote computer or device, Route1 utilizes multiple verifications to guarantee a specific individual’s identity.

Route1’s unique, integrated secure remote access solution offers many benefits, including the following:

– Keeps files within enterprise firewalls – data is not moved outside the network.
– Authenticates the individual user’s identity using multiple factors.
– Offers remote users identical access that they have at their physical office; they are actually working on their virtual or physical office computer in real time.
– Protects against man-in-the-middle attacks and malware.
– Requires no software installation on the remote PC; any internet-enabled PC can be used.
– Leaves no footprint on the remote PC; no files are transferred, leaving nothing on the remote device.
– Integrates seamlessly into existing IT infrastructure, requiring no additional servers or network upgrades or configuration changes.
– Offers very quick installation on the host computer, supported by a highly regarded helpdesk.

Open Virtualization Alliance Is Growing Like A Weed

September 19, 2011 by Robin Wauters Leave a Comment

The Open Virtualization Alliance (OVA), a consortium committed to fostering the adoption of open virtualization technologies, today announced that it is – still – experiencing rapid growth in participation from companies focused on cloud computing and emerging markets around the globe.

Kernel-based Virtual Machine (KVM) technology provides unique advantages for companies looking for an open alternative for building cloud deployments and in emerging markets where cost and freedom from vendor lock-in are key criteria in selecting a virtualization solution.

More than 50 percent of OVA members are focused on cloud computing, and virtualization is a key component of every cloud.

OVA membership is growing significantly among companies in new global regions, including Asia Pacific and Latin America.

More than 200 technology companies have joined the OVA in total, delivering over a 20-fold growth in members since its launch three months ago.

At its launch in May 2011, the OVA founding members included: BMC Software, Eucalyptus Systems, HP, IBM, Intel, Red Hat and SUSE.
