Release: rPath Cloud Engine (Application Automation For Private, Hybrid Clouds)

October 17, 2011 by Robin Wauters Leave a Comment

rPath, the application engine provider for the private cloud, has announced the general availability of rPath Cloud Engine, a new software solution that empowers cloud technology vendors and managed service providers with the ability to deliver critical applications with consistency, reliability and speed. I

n addition to end-to-end application management, rPath Cloud Engine also plugs and plays into any cloud technology ecosystem, helping these vendors and MSPs to differentiate their offering to enterprise customers with bulletproof application delivery.

rPath Cloud Engine features a model-driven approach to provisioning and update that is push-button simple. rPath Cloud Engine automatically generates software configurations based on an application’s current run-time environment, eliminating the need for labor-intensive, error-prone approaches to image creation, such as golden images and manual scripts.

The rPath Cloud Engine is available now and can be purchased directly through rPath’s global sales organization and its certified partners.

While rPath Cloud Engine can be easily integrated into any private cloud stack, information on its integration with Cisco Intelligent Automation for Cloud (CIAC) is currently available online.

Michael Torto Appointed New CEO Of rPath

May 13, 2009 by Robin Wauters Leave a Comment

rPath today announced that Michael Torto has been appointed CEO, positioning the company for growth in solutions for automating deployment and maintenance of complex applications across traditional, virtual and cloud-based environments.

“Enterprises have demonstrated strong interest in rPath technology for addressing the growing cost and complexity of application delivery,” said Tim Buckley, executive chairman of the board for rPath. “Mike has the ideal skill set and personal attributes to accelerate rPath’s growth as we harvest our deep R&D and market development investments to build a scalable business to serve enterprise markets. We’re very pleased to have Mike leading the next phase of our growth.”

Torto takes the CEO position as rPath continues its campaign to reform application delivery and system management, which typically remain time- and cost-intensive manual processes. rPath dramatically reduces the time, cost and risk of enterprise application delivery by automating the packaging, deployment, and maintenance of applications as complete and self-contained systems that are ready to run and manage in any traditional, virtual or cloud-based environment.

Prior to joining rPath, Torto served as president and CEO of Centive, a leader in incentive management software, where he led the company’s growth and expansion into global markets and through its acquisition by Xactly Corp. earlier this year. Before joining Centive, Torto was president and CEO of InCert Software, successfully transitioning the company from a start-up to a leading software provider. Before InCert, Torto served as president and CEO at Swan International, Inc., a provider of application delivery and self-healing software, which he led to a successful IPO on the European EASDAQ in April of 1999.

Mike Torto’s complete bio can be found at http://www.rpath.com/corp/about-us/management#torto.

Industry Moves: Former Red Hat COO Tim Buckley Joins rPath Board As Executive Chairman

January 14, 2009 by Robin Wauters Leave a Comment

rPath today announced that Tim Buckley, principal of Buckley Investments and former chief operating officer of Red Hat, has joined the rPath board of directors as the executive chairman. From his newly created post, Buckley will help rPath accelerate its push into the enterprise market with solutions for reducing the cost and complexity of delivering applications to traditional, virtualized, and cloud-based environments.

Buckley brings more than 20 years of experience in sales and marketing leadership for high-growth technology start-ups. Prior to founding Buckley Investments LLC, a Raleigh, NC-based consulting company, he was COO for Red Hat, where he was part of the executive team that transformed the company from a start-up to the dominant provider of open source operating systems to the enterprise market. Red Hat has publicly credited Buckley with its worldwide growth and transformation into an enterprise sales organization.

Prior to Red Hat, Buckley was senior vice president of worldwide sales for Seattle-based Visio Corp., where he was instrumental in growing the company from start-up to IPO and ultimately through a $1.5 billion acquisition by Microsoft. Earlier, Buckley was an executive with Aldus, the developers of PageMaker; and Approach, which he helped launch from its early stages through a major acquisition by Lotus Development Corp

rPath: Cloud Computing In Plain English (Video)

December 23, 2008 by Robin Wauters 2 Comments

rPath recently announced “Cloud Computing in Plain English,” an animated short video (YouTube) which takes a lighthearted look at cloud computing while bringing clarity to what has become a somewhat confusing concept.

rPath plays a key role in this trend by providing an approach that reduces the cost and complexity of deploying and maintaining enterprise applications that run in the cloud and other virtualized or traditional environments.

“Cloud Computing in Plain English” touches on cloud’s foundational technologies — virtualization, utility computing, and software as a service — explaining each in terms that are easily understood by laypeople. The video goes on to clearly yet simply differentiate cloud computing from its component technologies, and finally, underscore cloud computing’s business benefits.
