Juniper Networks Debuts Junosphere Lab, Connector

October 3, 2011 by Robin Wauters Leave a Comment

Juniper Networks today announced the availability of Junosphere Lab, a new virtual environment that lets service providers and enterprises design, test and operate networks.

Junosphere is a cloud offering that allows network operators to create and run networks on-demand, enabling network modeling, testing and planning at a scale that is practically impossible to achieve with physical equipment.

Using Junosphere Lab, companies can “rent” networks for as little as $50 per day, enabling them to speed modeling projects by over 30 percent and lower total cost of ownership by as much as 90 percent when compared to the alternative of building a physical lab.

Junosphere Lab extends the capabilities of the Junosphere environment first announced with Junosphere Classroom in May 2011. Today, Juniper also introduced Junosphere Connector, an optional application that enables users to connect their Junosphere networks to physical networks or lab environments.

Junosphere is an all-Juniper data center network design, built with Juniper Networks products, and optimized to meet the secure networking demands of a cloud-based environment.

Junosphere Lab is immediately available. Prricing starts at $5 dollars per virtual machine image, per day.

Cotendo Raises $17 Million From Citrix, Juniper Networks And Others

June 15, 2011 by Robin Wauters Leave a Comment

Cotendo, provider of cloud-based acceleration technologies, announced today the completion of a $17 million private funding round that will fuel the company’s “long-term growth strategy and continued technology innovation in the delivery of highly-personalized dynamic content for mobile and web applications”.

In addition, the funds will be used to continue Cotendo’s global expansion into new markets and fast growing regions around the world.

Strategic investors and new business partners Citrix Systems and Juniper Networks, through its Junos Innovation Fund, participated in this round of funding along with existing venture backers Sequoia, Benchmark and Tenaya Capital.

The synergy between the services and technologies of Citrix Systems and Cotendo blend on-premise physical and virtual appliances, content acceleration and cloud services that will accelerate and optimize delivery from the end user all the way to the enterprise over distributed networks, thereby improving end user experience from any location to any device.

The relationship between Juniper Networks and Cotendo will address the demand of service providers for technologies that will enable them to offer value added services and over-the-top services to content providers. This includes mobile carriers, large ISPs, and telecom companies that buy products to serve enterprise customers.

Cotendo will also launch and commercialize its new Mobile Acceleration Suite, and announced today the new frontier of acceleration services, ensuring fast and reliable delivery of mobile content regardless of location, device, or application.

With this funding round Cotendo will embark on a rapid sales and business development expansion in Asia-Pacific and Latin America to address the growing demand for mobile content acceleration services in places where the Smart Phone frequently replaced the PC as a primary computing and networking vehicle.

Juniper Networks Launches Junosphere Classroom

May 16, 2011 by Robin Wauters Leave a Comment

Juniper Networks this morning announced Junosphere Classroom, a new cloud-based service designed to enable educational institutions, partners and customers to educate networking students and professionals.

Junosphere Classroom is based on Junosphere, a new cloud environment that enables the creation and modeling of virtual networks and elements running the industry-leading Junos operating system.

Juniper Networks hosts Junosphere Classroom resources in data centers, designed using Juniper’s networking and security technologies, which are accessible to students via a secure Internet connection.

This “any-time, any-where” access to the Junosphere environment can extend individual study time, and is also ideal for providing remote learning and home-based education.

Junosphere Classroom is available as a standalone offering, and as a component of the Juniper Networks Academic Alliance (JNAA) and Juniper Networks Authorized Educations Partner (JNAEP) programs, which provide prepackaged curricula and courseware.

Altor Networks Integrates Altor VF 3.0 With Juniper Networks STRM Series Security Threat Response Managers

July 29, 2009 by Robin Wauters Leave a Comment

Altor Networks today announced the integration of Altor VF 3.0 with Juniper Networks STRM Series Security Threat Response Managers to extend its powerful solution for correlation and threat management into virtualized server environments.

Altor VF 3.0 provides logs, events, and inter-virtual-machine traffic statistics from inside the virtualized server to the STRM Series via Syslog and Netflow. With this combined solution, customers can continue to use the STRM product features, work flow, and user interface they are already trained for, with the added benefit of including the virtualized server environment.

Altor VF 3.0 uses purpose-built, patent-pending technology, and integration with VMware VMsafe APIs to deliver defense-in-depth and address the unique security challenges of the virtualized environment. By deploying the integrated solution, enterprises can bring the benefits of the leading log and event management solution to the virtualized environment with minimal overhead and cost.

Altor Networks Introduces Virtual Firewall, Integrates With ArcSight, Juniper, Mazu and VMware

October 14, 2008 by Robin Wauters Leave a Comment

Altor Networks today announced the availability of the Altor VF (Virtual Firewall), and announced its certified integration with products from ArcSight, Juniper Networks, Mazu Networks and VMware.

The Altor VF is a software security appliance that runs in a virtualized environment and enforces security policy on a per virtual machine (VM) basis. Unlike existing firewalls designed for physical networks, the Altor VF virtual firewall can secure Live Migration – a technology designed to trigger automatic movement of VMs across physical servers, but capable of inadvertently moving an application to a less trusted network. The Altor VF was purpose-built for the virtual environment – enabling tighter security policy and greater ease-of-use than existing virtual firewalls adapted from their physical firewall counterparts.

The Altor VF extends the functionality of traditional firewalls. Traditional firewalls not only provide security to physical networks, they also provide visibility to the traffic running through them and export some of that data to 3rd party products to aggregate and correlate data across the network. However, traditional firewalls cannot see into the virtual environment. The Altor VF extends visibility into the virtual environment – providing NetFlow statistics, Sys Log, and other network statistics on a per application basis and exporting that data to 3rd party products such as those from ArcSight and Mazu Networks (Please see separate releases for details).

Similarly, in existing physical networks, some companies also employ an Intrusion Detection & Prevention System (IDS/IPS) to further secure their physical networks. Through its partnership with Juniper Networks, the Altor VF enables Juniper IDP appliances to extend their protection into the virtual environment (Please see separate releases for details).

The Altor VF brings to market a number of industry firsts to dramatically improve virtual network security management:

— VirtualCenter Integration — The Altor VF includes out-of-the-box integration with VMware’s VirtualCenter, enabling the automated deployment of virtual firewalls on ESX hosts. The product further applies a default policy to all new virtual machines — helping control virtual machine sprawl.

— Security Policy per Virtual Machine — VMs on a virtual server can serve different purposes — ranging from development and test to various types of production applications. The Altor VF locks down each VM to its specified use, insuring no communication among VMs with mixed application trust levels.

— Support for Live Migration — When VMotion moves a VM to a different physical host, the Altor VF ensures that its security policy and active sessions move along with it. Therefore, companies can obtain the full benefits of Live Migration while maintaining security within their virtual network.

The Altor VF is available immediately with prices ranging between $1,500 and $2,000 per server depending on volume.
