Release: Hyper9 Virtualization Optimization Suite

July 30, 2009 by Robin Wauters Leave a Comment

Hyper9 today announced the release of its flagship Virtualization Optimization Suite (VOS) giving IT managers and administrators better business insights into their virtual infrastructure. The product combines usability and dashboard features with in-depth analytics and reporting to help users find, reclaim and right-size virtual resources – and stem the tide of “VM Sprawl”.

A recent survey of Hyper9 customers concluded that at least 20 percent of existing VMs are deemed superfluous – and that organizations are spending significantly more than necessary on their virtualization strategy.

Lack of visibility into the virtual infrastructure, manual processes that circumvent best practices and standardization, multiple disconnected management tools and data sources, and undetected elements of VM sprawl – such as suspended VMs, VMs that are powered on but not being used, orphaned files, redundant snapshots, out of compliance software licenses and thin provisioning – are all contributing factors to the escalating costs and inefficiencies in virtual environments.

Hyper9’s Web-based Virtualization Optimization Suite provides a tops-down, cross-functional view into the virtual infrastructure by inspecting myriad data sources and displaying the results according to what a specific user – or group of users – cares about most. Key features and capabilities include:

  • Targeted Insights — My Environment and At-a-Glance views into the virtual infrastructure, such as VMs, VCs, hosts, guests and clusters
  • Hyper9 Active Links — one-click access to data, out-of-the-box reports and common tasks, such as “find VMs”, “run reports”, and “solve VM sprawl”
  • Hyper9 VMDNA — analyzes historical performance and configuration data, including visual comparisons of VMs over time and to each other
  • Workspaces — helps users organize and share content, and gain visibility into VMs and their usage
  • Visual Launch Pad and Tutorials – step-by-step guides and processes to solve virtualization challenges, such as VM sprawl
  • My Content — ability to build, save, organize and bookmark searches and reports for reuse
  • Customized Searches – for drilling down into the virtual infrastructure, including pre-built filters that support further data segmentation
  • Automated Monitoring and Alerting – proactively track changes, rogue VMs, VM sprawl and other key events
  • Community Support – provides access to resources, answers and advice from virtualization industry experts

Hyper9 Releases Andrew Kutz’ Virtualization Mobile Manager

June 10, 2009 by Robin Wauters Leave a Comment

Hyper9 released yesterday a browser-based management and monitoring tool that allows Virtualization administrators to control their virtual infrastructures from a mobile device.

The Virtualization Mobile Manager (VMM), which was created by Andrew Kutz, a well-known developer in the VMware community, has been in beta for the last month, where hundreds of virtualization administrators have used the product in the field and provided positive feedback to Hyper9.

During the beta period, VMM demonstrated its ability to work with VMware Server 2, VMware Infrastructure 3, VMware vSphere 4, Microsoft Hyper-V, and Citrix XenServer 5. The application will also work with almost any mobile device, including the Apple iPhone, Blackberry, Google Android and Windows Mobile Devices.

VMM also offers the ability to monitor host and VM performance statistics (CPU, Memory), control VMs and take action on the go – start, stop, pause, reset and disable network – all of which were important features to the beta users. Hyper9 is doing its part to make VMM a compelling offering, by giving users the ability to manage up to five VMs for free as well as special introductory pricing of $199.00 for up to 1000 VMs.

Hyper9 Unveils Virtual Infrastucture Management Tool

March 18, 2009 by Robin Wauters Leave a Comment

Hyper9 announced today the general availability of Hyper9, a product that leverages Internet and virtualization management technologies to manage change, configuration and performance issues in a modern, efficient way.

Built for VI administrators by VI administrators, Hyper9 is a simple, yet powerful enterprise-class product that is ideally suited for managing virtual server infrastructures. It enables monitoring, troubleshooting and reporting on virtual infrastructures like nothing else in the marketplace. It accomplishes this without agents, tree views, spreadsheets, or multiple tools.

Among the key product features are:

  • Search: Search across your entire virtual universe, from the hypervisor to inside the guest.
  • Alert & Monitor: Build queries to monitor your environment from inside the guest and across your virtual infrastructure. Set up alerts to track changes and keep on top of problem solving.
  • Compare: Analyze historical data about your virtual machines, such as how they’ve changed over time, with Hyper9 VMDNA™.
  • Report: Slice and dice data, generate performance charts and reports for management and colleagues.
  • Collaborate: Store and manage your searches, lists and reports and invite colleagues into your workspace.
Pricing for Hyper9 starts at $25 a month.

In addition to the Hyper9 product being made available at the web site, the H9Labs Search Plug-in for VI Client is also ready for download. This software was developed by a well known developer in the VMware community, Hyper9’s own Andrew Kutz, who was recently named a vExpert by VMware. H9Labs’ Search Plug-in gives the VMware VI Client 2.5 auto-complete search capability from inside the guest across your virtual infrastructure.

Now That Hyper9 Is Out Of Stealth, Names Get Named

July 16, 2008 by Robin Wauters Leave a Comment

Hyper9, formerly known as InovaWave, has only recently come out of stealth mode, and is set to release its first product next September. Today, the company sent word out about its two ‘key product architects’. Using verbs like ‘unveiled’ and ‘revealed’, the names put forward are those of Jim Snyder and Brian Baker.

Prior to Hyper9, Jim Snyder created search-oriented intellectual property and led development of the search platform at 21st Century Technologies. He also created the analytics/reporting platform at Core Metrics and the web-based configuration platform at Trilogy, where he served as principal architect.

Brian Baker is being called a seasoned entrepreneur, carrying more than 20 years of experience creating and delivering enterprise infrastructure solutions. At Hyper9, Baker focuses on the data collection, aggregation and management activities needed to fuel its search engine. Previously, Baker served as a principal engineer at United Devices, and prior to that, Baker founded Journee Software, a real-time enterprise data hub solution which was acquired by Initiate Systems.

Hyper9 Comes Out Of Stealth, Focuses On Letting You Find And Manage Virtual Machines

June 24, 2008 by Robin Wauters 1 Comment

Hyper9, formerly known as InovaWave, provider of search-based software for virtual environment management, today announced its first product, carrying the same name as its parent company. Hyper9 will be free to download in September.

Hyper9

Hyper9, a privately held company headquartered in Austin, Texas, leverages a “Google-like” search engine to access both real-time and historical data on everything from the guest operating system to the physical infrastructure, then presents that data via a “next-generation” user interface. As a result, Hyper9 claims this approach supports faster troubleshooting, comprehensive monitoring and detailed reporting on the performance, configuration and utilization of virtual environments.

“Just as virtualization is transforming traditional computing, Hyper9 is ready with a truly scalable, flexible and intuitive approach to managing these dynamic environments,” said Chris Ostertag, president and CEO of Hyper9, Inc. “Hyper9’s unique architecture ensures that it can adapt to and accommodate the continually changing nature of virtual environments even as they gravitate to more hybrid states.”

The initial Hyper9 virtual appliance is designed to work only with the VMware ESX environment. Later versions will work with additional hypervisors, the company announced.
