DataCore Teams Up With immixGroup For Targeted Storage Virtualization Programs

DataCore Software, a provider of storage virtualization software, has announced that it has teamed with immixGroup, the largest provider of government channel programs for technology companies, to structure targeted channel sales programs into the federal government as well as to the Public Sector.

immixGroup will also manage DataCore’s GSA schedule.

Under this new relationship, immixGroup will work in conjunction with reseller partners and solution providers on behalf of DataCore to drive new government sector sales opportunities and help them become familiar with rules of engagement.

From the government’s perspective, the new partnership and its programs will make it easier for federal datacenters to benefit from the cost savings and productivity that comes from virtualizing their existing and new storage infrastructures in support of their virtual servers and virtual desktop initiatives.

DataCore Software Names Former Citrix Exec As VP Of Worldwide Marketing

DataCore Software, provider of storage virtualization software, has announced the appointment of Linda Haury as vice president of worldwide marketing.

A 25-year high-tech industry veteran, Haury comes to DataCore from her most recent position as senior director of global marketing business partner, planning and operations at Citrix Systems.

She brings deep expertise in virtualization and storage technologies and will help drive continued growth for DataCore’s next-generation storage virtualization software solution, SANsymphony- V.

Haury will report directly to DataCore Software president and CEO, George Teixeira.

While at Citrix Systems, Haury held a variety of senior-level marketing positions throughout her 14-year tenure. She was most recently senior director of global marketing business partner, planning and operations and served as the primary interface between Citrix’s corporate and field marketing organizations.

Prior to Citrix Systems, Haury spent much of her career in the storage industry serving as one of the founders of SyDos, a division of SyQuest Technology, where she was vice president of marketing. She also served in that same role for Rodime Systems, a global disk-drive storage provider.

DataCore Survey Suggests Companies Don’t Anticipate Impact Of Storage On Virtualization Project Costs

A survey commissioned by DataCore (“The State of Virtualization”) finds that a majority of medium- and large-enterprise IT organizations overlook storage when implementing a virtualized operating environment.

The data reveals that nearly half of the respondents (43 percent) had not anticipated the impact that storage would have on their server and desktop virtualization costs or had not started a virtualization project because the storage-related costs “seem too high.” As a result, the rollout of their virtualization projects is delayed.

Of those that have deployed server virtualization, 66 percent cited a substantial increase in storage costs as the biggest problem they are facing. Nearly 40 percent say the storage infrastructure is either slowing application performance or limiting its availability, while more than 20 percent indicate that business continuity has become more difficult.

Over 56% now realize that consolidation creates I/O bottlenecks that prevent them from moving to the next level of virtualization.

The online survey of more than 450 medium- and large-enterprise IT organizations in the North America and Europe was conducted in January 2011. The survey asked a series of questions about virtualization and its impact on storage.

DataCore Software Adds Support for Fibre Channel over Ethernet

DataCore Software, a provider of storage virtualization, business continuity and disaster recovery software solutions, today announced support for native Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) connectivity for its SANmelody and SANsymphony storage virtualization solutions.

The company has added the Emulex and Brocade FCoE converged network adapters (CNAs) and Cisco Nexus 5000 Series switches to its FCoE-qualified support list. Additional FCoE CNAs will be announced over the next year. FCoE software drivers are currently available for Microsoft Windows and VMware ESX / vSphere.

FCoE is changing the way customers can use Ethernet in their data centers. DataCore customers can transition to an FCoE infrastructure while still supporting existing Fibre Channel investments – meaning greater choice and flexibility while building out their storage networks. Customers can run both FCoE and IP traffic through the same port and on the same wire, eliminating the need and expense for separate SAN and LAN adapters and cables. The ability to run FC protocol over existing Ethernet cabling is significant for network administration. It means that administrators do not need to have a separate network for running Fibre Channel protocol.

FCoE is primarily used to consolidate back-end cables in a data center – enabling network administrators to use the Ethernet infrastructure for FC and IP protocols. What is needed to make it work is a converged network adapter (CNA), which serves as an FCoE card, along with a network switch. For storage, this connects to DataCore-powered SANs using Ethernet networks – thereby connecting application servers to the virtual storage pool as easily as you would connect your desktop to a printer.

DataCore Introduces Advanced Site Recovery Software

DataCore, provider of storage virtualization solutions, has launched its Advanced Site Recovery (ASR) solution for virtual and physical IT infrastructures.

This new component of DataCore’s comprehensive business continuity portfolio enables businesses to embrace Distributed Disaster Recovery (D-DR) that allows organizations to cost-effectively spread disaster recovery (DR) responsibilities across several smaller sites. ASR builds on DataCore’s universal storage virtualization software to move IT operations from a central site to one or more distributed contingency locations – and back again. Additionally, the solution makes no distinction between physical and virtual servers, unifying their DR operations in a common, automated process. DataCore’s Advanced Site Recovery solution can be seen this week in booth #301 at the Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference in New Orleans.

Taking machines from one site and replicating them to another site before a calamity unfolds is not new. But buyer beware. Many other disaster recovery products are limiting in that they assume recovery, from one environment to an identical or very similar environment or they support only a subset of the infrastructure. Often physical servers are not supported or require a separate solution from applications and virtual servers. DataCore ASR enables users to execute site recovery operations in a way that is fundamentally different from existing solutions in the marketplace today by bringing the data center together into single solution.
