Former Cisco Exec Simon Aspinall Joins Virtustream As CMO

Virtustream has announced that Simon Aspinall has joined its executive team as chief marketing officer. Aspinall spent more than a decade at Cisco Systems and, at Virtustream, will drive strategic marketing initiatives as the company expands its xStream cloud solution product suite, including the xStream Software Infrastructure-as-a-Service (SIaaS) offering and more.

Aspinall will lead Virtustream’s Silicon Valley Office in San Francisco.

Most recently, Aspinall led Cisco’s global marketing teams for Cloud, Service Provider Data Center and Mobile solutions. During his decade at Cisco, Aspinall has also led both business development and sales teams in Europe, the United States and Asia.

Aspinall’s appointment as chief marketing officer follows a year of strong growth for Virtustream; the company opened four new offices in 2011, and recently acquired cloud software company Enomaly, to enhance its xStream cloud solutions and ecosystem.

Virtustream Appoints Karl Deacon As Managing Director, EMEA

Virtustream, a cloud solutions provider, has appointed Karl Deacon as managing director for EMEA.

Deacon joins Virtustream from Capgemini where he was most recently vice president strategy and global CTO of the Infrastructure Services strategic business unit.

Prior to Capgemini, he was director of international operations and engineering, EMEA, at WorldCom, where he led a team of more than 800 people as they provided critical services to internal users and commercial services to EMEA clients.

Deacon has also held senior international roles at PriceWaterhouseCoopers, Logica and American Express, and served in Her Majesty’s Royal Navy.

Virtustream Appoints Former VMware Exec Jeff Miller As Chief Sales Officer

Virtustream, a cloud solutions provider, has announced that Jeff Miller has joined its executive team as Chief Sales Officer with global responsibility for the company’s sales operations.

Miller joins Virtustream from the SpringSource division of VMware, where he served as VP of sales, Americas.

Prior to VMware, Miller was at SpringSource up to its acquisition by VMware; he was instrumental in integrating SpringSource’s open source solutions into VMware’s vFabric cloud application development framework.

Prior to SpringSource, Miller managed sales divisions for Novell, desktop integration provider OpenSpan and JBoss.

Virtustream provides a full range of cloud services to assess customer infrastructure requirements and make specific vendor and technology agnostic recommendations regarding cloud deployments.

Actifio Names Former IBM System Storage VP Jim Sullivan As President

Actifio today announced that Jim Sullivan has been named president.

In this role, Sullivan leads go-to-market activities for Actifio as it establishes leadership in an entirely new class of storage.

Most recently, Sullivan was vice president, worldwide sales, IBM System Storage.

Actifio has pioneered the industry’s first storage system optimized for managing copies of production data, eliminating redundant silos of IT infrastructure and data management applications.

Prior to it being acquired by IBM, Sullivan served as president of XIV, a market leader of next generation storage arrays.

Sullivan also had an outstanding 12-year tenure at EMC where he executed one of the storage industry’s fastest growths in sales, holding numerous leadership positions and culminating in the role of senior vice president of sales. Sullivan also served on the Board at AppIQ (acquired by HP) and Diligent (acquired by IBM), and is a member of the Young Presidents’ Organization devoted to the professional and personal growth of business leaders around the world.

Ed Hubbard Joins Virtual Bridges (From Citrix) As VP

Virtual Bridges has announced that it has named Edward Hubbard vice president of products and alliances.

In his new role, Hubbard, who most recently served as senior director of business development at Citrix Systems, will drive the company’s long-term product and partnership strategy, working closely with clients to understand their business plans and deliver solutions that meet their needs.

Hubbard spent time with Dell, Microsoft and Intel before founding United Devices and serving as the company’s CEO. After a successful merger with Univa UD, Hubbard joined Citrix, managing the company’s virtualization business development efforts including strategic relationships with Microsoft and other ecosystem partners.

Hubbard will guide the roadmap for VERDE, the industry’s first VDI Gen2 offering. VERDE core capabilities include online, offline and branch VDI, a Gold Master provisioning model, a Distributed Connection brokering architecture, flexibility to run both Windows and Linux desktops, branch-level VDI at LAN speeds, the ability to span both on-premises and hosted deployment modes and desktop portability on a USB stick.

Former Cisco CTO Alan Conley Joins Zenoss

Zenoss has announced the appointment of Alan Conley as chief technology officer.

Conley joins Zenoss from Cisco, where for many years he led their IT operations architecture and was most recently CTO of the Network Management Technology Group where he was responsible for Cisco’s cloud and virtualization management offerings.

Conley has extensive experience in the cloud management industry. He was a key driver of Cisco’s strategy and architecture for cloud management, next generation network API, OpenStack, DMTF OVF 2.0, and Open Network Foundation (ONF).

Conley also brings to Zenoss more than 14 years’ experience in IT at Cisco as a distinguished engineer responsible for IT operations and management technology.
