Wyse Software Suite Components To Be Integrated Into VMware View

September 28, 2008 by Robin Wauters Leave a Comment

VMware today announced a licensing agreement with Wyse Technology to use its remote display software to enhance RDP for VMware View. Bolstering its vClient Initiative and its commitment to support broad customer choice for the use of multiple protocol technologies, VMware plans to integrate two components of Wyse’s software suite into a future release of VMware View.

VMware View will include a portfolio of products that will give end users a single view of all their applications and data in a familiar, personalized environment – dubbed “myview” – that will be available from almost any device and location. With VMware View, enterprises will be able to replace traditional PCs with virtual desktops that follow users instead of devices. These virtual desktops will be centrally managed in the datacenter, but they will be able to run locally on a laptop or remotely from a server. VMware View will help enterprises achieve streamlined desktop and application management while reducing desktop TCO, improving security of data and enhancing user experience, flexibility and productivity.

In addition to supporting Wyse thin clients, the licensing agreement is designed to enable VMware to use Wyse’s enhancements with personal computers and third-party thin client devices. VMware View with Wyse’s TCX-MMR (multimedia) and TCX-MDS (multi-display) solutions will enhance virtual desktop solutions.

As part of VMware’s vClient initiative, VMware View will provide customers the flexibility to choose the protocol for its users through multi-protocol support. VMware also plans to license Teradici’s PC-over-IP protocol as previously announced. In addition, VMware View is expected to support protocols from HP and Sun.

Wyse Announces Support for Windows Embedded Standard OS 2009

June 25, 2008 by Robin Wauters Leave a Comment

Wyse Technology today announced its support for the recently unveiled Windows Embedded Standard 2009 across all Wyse product lines.

Wyse

Windows Embedded Standard 2009 is the next generation of Windows XP Embedded that delivers most of the Windows OS in componentized form. A technology preview is available from Microsoft, with general availability of Windows Embedded Standard scheduled for Q4 of this year.

Wyse’s entire line of clients will support the Windows Embedded Standard upon general availability, providing organizations with the ideal means to capitalize on the benefits of thin computing atop a Microsoft platform. The platforms which will support the Windows Embedded Standard 2009 include the compact S90, the V90L/LE, the flexible G90 and the newly-released mobile thin clients the X90(e) and X90L(e). These products will allow the flexibility for customers to choose the ideal form factor that meets their end user needs while taking advantage of this next generation Windows Embedded Standard operating system.

Wyse’s support of Windows Embedded Standard 2009 should help IT administrators rapidly deploy devices that provide rich applications and end-user experiences and services, while easily connecting to common industry standards and Microsoft technologies.

“With the benefits of reduced IT administration, combined with energy reduction, lower carbon emissions, and longer life-span, thin clients continue to provide attractive alternatives in flexible computing in the enterprise,” said Jeff McNaught, Chief Marketing Office at Wyse. “We are excited that Windows Embedded Standard 2009 provides the leading platform for a new generation of thin clients for our customers.”

Wyse Launches New Class of Desktop Appliance Solutions Designed for Citrix XenDesktop

April 15, 2008 by Robin Wauters 1 Comment

Wyse Technology today announced that it will bring to market a new class of appliances, specifically designed for the new Citrix XenDesktop product line (due to be unveiled soon at Citrix Synergy 2008). By combining Wyse’s new appliances with the desktop delivery capabilities found in Citrix XenDesktop, enterprises will “have a comprehensive solution for delivering desktops to office workers with the best user experience, simplest administration and lowest cost of ownership”, according to the press release.

Wyse

“The Wyse Viance family of devices provide unique features beyond what’s currently available that deliver easy set-up time and management, fast performance, rich multimedia experience, broad USB peripheral compatibility, multi-display support, and quick access to online end-user support. In addition, these appliances only use 13 to 19 watts of power making them a very “green” solution.”

“Wyse has partnered with Citrix in the past to sell thin clients for Terminal Services and Presentation Server, but now a new, bigger opportunity has emerged” said John Abbott, chief analyst of the 451 Group. “Desktop virtualization all but forces an appliance model onto the desktop — users typically aren’t keen to control a virtual PC image with a physical PC. Citrix and Wyse are in a good position to capitalize on the fast-growing VDI (virtual desktop infrastructure) sector and push thin clients into the broader marketplace for the first time.”

Entry-level pricing of the new Wyse Viance appliances starts at $399.00 with volume shipments beginning this quarter. Existing Wyse thin clients that support XenDesktop are available today with prices starting at $299.00.
