VKernel has released another free tool, SnapshotMyVM, a utility that makes it extremely easy to quickly document and inventory all of your VMs.

SnapshotMyVM automates the time-consuming documentation process, collects dozens of important VM attributes, and creates detailed reports. You can export your documentation to XML, so that you can save it, edit it, archive it, and share it with others.

Here’s a sampling of the information you can get with SnapshotMyVM:

New features and functionality include Disk I/O statistics, a more intuitive user interface, and enhanced scalability to ensure the optimal performance of the most demanding VMware ESX environments.

Gene Fay Leaves EMC, Joins VKernel As Top Sales Guy

After Diane Greene leaving VMware, in comes the story of Gene Fay joining VKernel (check our earlier coverage) as Vice President of Sales. Fay was vice president of worldwide sales and global alliances for the security information and event management (SIEM) business unit of RSA, the Security Division of EMC. He joined EMC after the company acquired Network Intelligence where he was vice president of business development.

Gene seems to be happy with the decision he made:

Xcedex Agrees To Resell VKernel Suite of Virtual Appliances

VKernel today announced a partnership with Xcedex, a North American VMware premier partner. Under the agreement, Xcedex becomes a VKernel Gold Partner that will resell VKernel’s Suite of Virtual Appliances for analyzing and monitoring capacity, implementing chargeback, and gaining cost visibility in VMware ESX environments to its growing customer base.

The VKernel Virtual Appliance Suite for Systems Management is a set of “plug-and-play” virtual appliances designed to quickly address real world systems management challenges as organizations migrate to VMware virtual environments.

Xcedex’ X-Factor solution set enables its customers to quickly and cost-effectively take virtualization from concept to production. VKernel Corporation announced (PDF) today that the company has joined the VMware Certified Virtual Appliance Program. The company also notes the VKernel Chargeback Virtual Appliance is currently the only available VMware-certified virtual appliance for chargeback and cost visibility.

Virtual appliances are pre-built, pre-configured, ready-to-run enterprise applications packaged with an operating system inside a virtual machine. Customers can easily install and deploy these pre-integrated solution stacks. This speeds up time-to-value and simplifies software development, distribution, and management.

The virtual appliance measures CPU, memory, storage, and network utilization in VMware virtualized environments, stores the information and generates chargeback and cost visibility reports.
