RNA Networks Launches With $7M In Series A Funding

February 2, 2009 by Robin Wauters Leave a Comment

RNA networks today announced the launch of its company and $7M in Series A funding led by Menlo Ventures.

Memory virtualization transparently enables high-performance computing in the enterprise from commodity hardware. RNA networks’ software improves utilization of existing data center resources, and provides an alternative to data center investments aimed at addressing the limitations of memory availability. By leveraging existing hardware, RNA brings tremendous business benefits to the enterprise including cost savings through consolidation and increased utilization. Equally compelling are the increased top line results of the businesses that utilize memory virtualization. All of this is accomplished with no changes to the IT infrastructure.

RNA networks also announced a U.S.-based, global multi-billion dollar hedge fund as a first customer of its RNAmessenger product. RNAmessenger is targeted at high-volume, low latency messaging or any business critical environment that demands superior transaction processing. Algorithmic trading, content delivery and on-line gaming are arenas that gain immediate benefit.

Citrix And VCs Invest Another $15 Million In Virtual Computer

January 26, 2009 by Robin Wauters Leave a Comment

Virtual Computer today announced it has secured $15 million in series B funding, in a round was co-led by series A investors Highland Capital Partners and Flybridge Capital Partners with additional investment coming from Citrix Systems.

The latest round of financing positions Virtual Computer to significantly accelerate its global sales and marketing efforts and further advance development of the company’s NxTop product offering.

NxTop, Virtual Computer’s next-generation PC management platform, makes it as easy to manage thousands of PCs as it is to manage one, dramatically reducing PC management costs while improving PC reliability and security. NxTop isolates the PC’s critical components — hardware, operating system, applications, and user data — allowing each to be managed independently in a highly-scalable fashion without a persistent network connection.

“This is a blockbuster funding round for any company, especially in this economic environment,” said Dan McCall, president and CEO of Virtual Computer. “Not only did our current investors show their continued support for the company, but we were able to add a proven leader in the virtualization market as a strategic investor. We are looking forward to working with Citrix to help make Xen a market standard for PC lifecycle management.”

Seanodes Is Doing Ok, Thank You For Asking

October 8, 2008 by Robin Wauters 1 Comment

Seanodes (earlier coverage), the creator and developer of Shared Internal Storage solutions, today announced strong growth and better-than-expected results for the first three quarters of 2008, with major customer wins, securing new funding and multiple industry awards for its Exanodes storage software.

Seanodes recently raised $2.4 million in funding from OSEO, France’s national agency for industrial innovation, in the form of a no-interest loan to support ongoing technology development and company growth. This latest funding will enable Seanodes to expand its R&D efforts and extend the Shared Internal Storage platform to VMware and Microsoft operating environments.

Recent customer wins include SMB customer Pack Solutions, one of France’s financial advisor firms, which chose Seanodes based on the reliability and high data availability of the architecture, and ServiSMART, a Portugal-based emerging service provider, which selected Seanodes to provide the virtualized storage platform for its new cloud computing infrastructure. Additionally, NASA’s infrared Processing and Analysis Center (IPAC), at the California Institute of Technology, selected Exanodes software to be part of an upgraded enterprise network architecture designed to process and store massive amounts of spectroscopy and imaging data generated by the Palomar Transient Factory (PTF), a four year project established to perform nightly scans of the skies to capture any new, undiscovered objects.

The company has scored several industry awards from leading technology publications:

  • Computer Reseller News included Seanodes in its “Emerging Tech Vendors,” the magazine’s annual list of channel-friendly companies that are recognized for providing superior technology, support and margins over more-established companies in today’s information technology industry.
  • Exanodes was named “Storage Virtualization Product of the Year” by Techworld, calling it “true innovation within the IT industry.”
  • eWeek chose Shared Internal Storage as one of the “10 Disruptive New Storage Technologies Promise Big Changes.” The publication recognized Seanodes for its “ground-breaking” storage software and proclaimed SIS as one of the “technologies that have emerged recently to set the industry on its ear.”
  • Network Products Guide named Exanodes Virtual Machine Edition a winner of the 2008 Best Products and Services Award. This respected annual award honors products and services that represent the rapidly changing needs and interests of the end-users of technology worldwide.

PHD Technologies Officially Announces Funding Round, Fails To Share Any Details

August 25, 2008 by Robin Wauters 1 Comment

Remember last week when we reported on PHD Technologies, provider of the esXPRESS backup and restoration solution for virtualized infrastructures, announcing the appointment of Sridhar Murthy as the company’s CEO?

The press release also mentioned a fresh funding round, but was scarce on details. Today, the company decided to let us in on the questions we all ask when a new investment in a virtualization company is made: who decided to invest, and how much?

Except you won’t find any answers in their newest official press release either, except for the fact that it concerns “an equity investment from a top tier venture capital firm”. The rest of the press release was the usual marketingese, but I really wondered why PHD Technologies decided it was worth sending a press release containing absolutely no new information whatsoever?

Seanodes Raises $2.4 Million From OSEO

July 23, 2008 by Robin Wauters 1 Comment

Seanodes, developer of what they call “Shared Internal Storage solutions”, today announced it has received about $2.4 million in funding from OSEO, France’s national agency for industrial innovation, in the form of a no-interest loan to support ongoing technology development and company growth.

“This additional funding will help to reinforce our R&D team and investments enabling us to accelerate the porting of our solution on VMware and Microsoft’s platforms,” said Christophe Guittenit, CTO of Seanodes.

Exanodes, the Seanodes software platform, allows virtualized infrastructure applications to marry unused disk space found in many server and storage clusters with existing or additional dedicated storage hardware to provide a powerful shared storage pool. Exanodes abstracts the storage layer from the physical devices enabling users to select the hardware and connectivity options that best suit their environment, today and tomorrow.
