Vembu Acquires CloudNucleus To Boost Data Backup, Recovery Solutions

Vembu Technologies, a provider of online data protection software for Managed Service Providers (MSPs) and Managed Hosting Providers (MHPs), has announced that it acquired CloudNucleus, a data protection software developer with specific focus on continuous data protection with bare metal backup and disaster recovery for Windows and Linux environments.

Specific terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The addition of CloudNucleus strengthens Vembu’s offerings in the areas of business continuity and disaster recovery, Continuous Data Protection (CDP), Bare Metal Recovery (BMR), and protection of virtualized environments and will enhance the ability of Vembu’s service provider partners to offer a superior backup service to their customers.

Further, CloudNucleus’ technical capability, and service delivery will complement Vembu’s established channel and enhance its ability to serve partners and their customers around the globe.

Vembu intends to integrate the technology and operations of CloudNucleus into its existing operations.

Srivatsan Venkatesan will join Vembu as Vice President of Product Management, Storage Products. Vembu and CloudNucleus will integrate engineering and development functions to accelerate the development and delivery of their data protection solutions.

Vyatta Network OS Now Available In Amazon AWS Cloud And For Red Hat KVM Environments

Vyatta, which specializes in software-based networking for physical, virtual and cloud infrastructures, announced that its latest product release, Vyatta Network OS 6.3, is now available as an Amazon Machine Images (AMI), and that it will include compatibility with Red Hat Kernel-Based Virtual Machine (KVM) hypervisors.

With new AMI custom support packages, Vyatta Network OS 6.3 offers comprehensive network security for the Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud.

Using Vyatta Network OS AMI, Amazon cloud customers can now build out secure multi-tier, multi-location architectures within Amazon VPC environments that include the same connectivity, network security and threat protection available from hardware devices in their enterprise datacenters.

Vyatta Network OS 6.3, the latest release of Vyatta’s on-demand networking software, provides IaaS, PaaS and SaaS providers a way to secure and connect Red Hat KVM-based datacenters and clouds. The Vyatta Network OS for KVM adds a full virtual network security stack with enterprise-grade router, firewall, VPN, IPS, web filtering, QoS and more.

Release: Oracle Solaris 10 8/11

Oracle today announced immediate availability of Oracle Solaris 10 8/11, which provides enhancements to Oracle Solaris ZFS and Oracle Solaris install technologies, advanced support for the latest SPARC and x86 systems and Oracle Database 11g performance improvements.

Oracle Solaris is an enterprise operating system, providing mission-critical availability, security and performance on both SPARC and x86 systems.

The Oracle Solaris 10 8/11 update includes new features, fixes and hardware support, preserving the Oracle Solaris Binary Application Guarantee Program to guarantee binary compatibility with older Oracle Solaris releases.

Oracle Solaris provides customers with over 11,000 third-party applications on more than 1,000 SPARC and x86 systems.

Qvidian Names Jim Eliason As CFO

Qvidian, which specializes in cloud computing sales effectiveness applications, today announced that Jim Eliason has joined the company as Chief Financial Officer. He will oversee all aspects of finance, legal, and human resources.

Eliason was most recently CFO for Desktone, a privately held, venture-backed company that provides a virtual desktop hosting platform that enables desktops as a service for enterprises.

Earlier in his career, Eliason was CFO for Empirix, a provider of testing and monitoring tools for voice and data applications.

He also held the position of CFO for Narad Networks, a telecommunications provider of broadband solutions to cable operators, where he helped raise more than $30 million of venture capital over two rounds of financing as part of a re-start team.

Eliason holds an M.B.A. in Finance from Bentley College and a B.S. in Accounting from Providence College. He is a licensed CPA in the state of Massachusetts.

Pano Logic Launches Two New Pano Express One-Step VDI Solutions

Pano Logic today announced two Pano Express one-step virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) solutions.

Pano Express SMB and Pano Express HA include the complete VDI infrastructure – both hardware and software – required to support up to 60 power users, plus zero client endpoints. T

he one-step VDI solution is delivered with preloaded and preconfigured servers using VMware vSphere 4, Microsoft Windows Server 2008, and up to 60 Pano zero client systems.

The Pano Express HA solution provides customers with an added layer of protection using DataCore failover and replication technology for high availability. Pano Express makes it simple for administrators to move from PCs to VDI in one step.

Pano Express HA and Pano Express SMB are available now. No word on pricing.

VMware Debuts Workstation 8

VMware today announced the availability of VMware Workstation 8, offering a way to build, share and upload virtual machines (VMs) to VMware vSphere.

With more than 50 new features, VMware Workstation 8 advances the way technical professionals can work with multiple virtual machines from their PCs or on enterprise private clouds.

VMware Workstation 8 is immediately available for purchase for $199. Upgrades from VMware Workstation 6.x and 7.x are available for $99.

VMware Customers who have purchased VMware Workstation 8 between Aug. 1, 2011 and Sept. 30, 2011 are eligible for a complimentary electronic upgrade to VMware Workstation 8.

Workstation can also be purchased through VMware’s network of resellers and distributors.
