Quest Software Offers Better Data Protection Suite For VMware

February 3, 2011 by Robin Wauters Leave a Comment

Quest Software has announced the latest release of vRanger Pro, with three key data protection capabilities added:

– Integrated backup and replication, one console with flexible deployment and licensing
– Native cataloging, with integrated restore to easily locate and restore individual files
– Fibre restore: to speed recovery and eliminate LAN traffic by using Fibre Channel infrastructure

vRanger Pro also now includes all of the capabilities of Quest Software vReplicator, which gives organizations VMware protection in one easy-to-use console.

The new version of vRanger Pro features patent-pending cataloging capability that provides a native, full catalog of every image in the backup repository so administrators can quickly and easily find and restore files, even among large amounts of virtual data. vRanger Pro also now features one-step catalog-based recovery, including advanced search options and right-click recovery selection directly from the management console.

vRanger Pro 5.0 is currently available. Also available from Quest Software is vRanger Standard Edition.

Release: Vizioncore vRanger Pro 4.0 DPP

July 9, 2009 by Robin Wauters Leave a Comment

Vizioncore has announced the general availability of vRanger Pro 4.0 DPP (Data Protection Platform), the company’s virtualization backup and recovery solution. vRanger 4.0 DPP has been entirely re-designed into a Data Protection Platform to offer organizations of all sizes reduced backup windows, additional scalability and flexibility, and smarter backup options to protect their critical data held on virtual machines (VMs).

The Data Protection Platform introduces two major architectural innovations. First, its Direct-To-Target architecture introduces a Plug-N-Play modularity system that enables backup once, recover many capability over multiple protocols and storage targets. vRanger Pro 4.0 DPP performs image-level backups and restores at the file- or image-level and will restore at the object-level in the future. These activities are “direct to target” flowing directly between hosts and targets without the use of a middleware proxy. Second, its Smart Backup Manager introduces an intelligent job engine that enables real-time and parallel management of jobs in a scalable manner.

Vizioncore Updates vRanger and vCharter Pro

July 17, 2008 by Robin Wauters 1 Comment

Vizioncore has released an upgrade to its backup and restore solution for virtualization environments, vRanger Pro 3.2.4. With vRanger Pro, administrators can schedule regular image-level backups of virtual or physical machines – while the machine is still running.  Images can be stored either locally in the SAN or sent as compressed files over a WAN to remote locations to support disaster recovery strategies. vRanger Pro also enables restore of individual files efficiently with an explorer tree through which users can easily identify and “grab” needed files.

vRanger Pro 3.2.4 is a minor update to the core 3.2 functionality.  There are two key components of this release: VCB Differential Backups and Support for FIPS encryption. Also included in this release are several bug fixes.

In addition, Vizioncore has released a minor dot release to its enterprise-level virtualization monitoring solution, vCharter Pro 3.0.1.  Key improvements include support for external Oracle databases (versions 9i or 10g) and a significant number of bug fixes. The 3.0.1 version of vCharter Pro now also supports installation on the 64-bit version of Windows Server 2003.
