NEC Corporation Signs Global OEM Agreement With Wyse

May 18, 2011 by Robin Wauters Leave a Comment

Wyse today announced the signing of a worldwide multiyear OEM agreement with NEC Corporation, a provider of IT and network technologies. The agreement involves NEC’s VirtualPCCenter (VPCC), an end-to-end desktop cloud platform from NEC designed to bring stability to enterprise IT systems.

As part of the agreement, NEC will be offering its customers two advanced NEC-branded Wyse thin clients with Wyse’s WDM cloud client infrastructure management software, which were developed for and in collaboration with NEC.

The two thin client products are US300c and US110c.

Both solutions feature a separate graphic accelerator for satisfying performance and user experience and a low-power media system processor that delivers rich multimedia and video playback of up to HD resolution.

Model US300c offers support for Windows Embedded Standard (WES), the next generation of Windows Embedded offerings from Microsoft. It also includes the latest RDP, ICA and VMware View client support, enhanced security features, advanced multimedia technology support with a Microsoft Silverlight plug-in component that enables the next generation of media experiences, rich interactive applications for the Web on devices that run WES, and local execution of Silverlight and Windows Media Player 11.

Model US110c offers support for Windows CE, features fast start-up powered by a VIA ULV 1GHz processor, and boots in seconds. This model also provides secure user login to corporate networks.

NEC’s VirtualPCCenter operates in the same way as a traditional desktop PC, enabling the user to access typical desktop PC applications. Benefits to the user and IT include, improved back up and security of data, enforced endpoint security, and simplified software maintenance.

NEC Express5800/A1160 Server Breaks Virtualization Performance Record (VMmark)

August 6, 2009 by Robin Wauters Leave a Comment

NEC Corporation today announced that their newest enterprise server, the NEC Express5800/A1160, has established a world record in overall VMmark performance benchmark results.

VMmark is an industry benchmark developed by VMware, to measure the performance and scalability of multiple enterprise applications running in virtualized servers so that customers can compare different virtualization platforms. The metrics are defined in “score @ tiles.” “Score” is referred as a throughput performance metric and “tiles” are the consolidation capacity of the system.

The record-breaking score, 34.05@24tiles, was achieved using the NEC Express5800/A1160 server, which was configured with 8 sockets populated with the Intel Xeon X7460 processors, powered by VMware ESX 4.0.

The NEC Express5800/A1160 features state-of-the-art NEC server technology with an up-to-4 nodes scalable building block architecture using the HSI technology to connect the blocks along with enhanced reliability, availability and serviceability, all of which are based on long-standing rich heritage of NEC mainframe, supercomputer and Intel Itanium server products.

Taking advantage of the server’s robust scalable architecture, high consolidation capacity, and high performance, NEC is promoting the NEC Express5800/A1160 server as a reliable virtualization platform.

Big in Japan: NEC Soft and DataCore Renew OEM Agreement

August 14, 2008 by Robin Wauters 1 Comment

NEC Soft and DataCore Software today announced the renewal of their OEM relationship under which NEC Soft builds and markets its MelodiousStor storage virtualization appliance.

Japan is moving to server virtualization. The benefits are undeniable and cannot be resisted in a competitive, global economy. It has been observed elsewhere that the rise in adoption of server virtualization causes customers to think differently about their storage. They want their storage to become as mobile and efficient as their virtual machines, and they are very interested in how they can build excellent flexibility and storage provisioning efficiency into their existing storage environments, while at the same time addressing increased requirements for storage protection, availability and performance inherent in a virtual server environment.

NEC Soft and DataCore believe that Japan’s adoption of storage virtualization will occur in parallel to its adoption of server virtualization, which is currently well underway. By combining NEC Soft’s expertise and acceptance in the Japanese market with DataCore’s storage virtualization and advanced storage management, the two companies are offering Japanese customers the opportunity to integrate into their existing storage environment important advances in thin provisioning capacity allocation, high performance data caching, high availability, disaster recovery and data migration.

NEC Soft, which through its related companies also offers VMware and Microsoft solutions, will market the DataCore, VMware and Microsoft virtual server solutions separately and as part of a Total Enterprise Virtualization solution offering.

Phoenix To Integrate HyperSpace into NEC Notebooks

July 15, 2008 by Robin Wauters Leave a Comment

Phoenix Technologies announced that NEC will be among the first PC manufacturers to integrate Phoenix HyperSpace, a virtualized operating environment that enables instant-on applications running independently and alongside Windows. NEC has signed an agreement with Phoenix which will allow it to deliver “unprecedented levels of security” for its notebook customers, enabled by HyperCore, Phoenix’s firmware-based hypervisor.

The Phoenix HyperSpace environment includes ManageSpace, which enables security applications to operate before, during and after Windows Vista boots up and shuts down. As a result, NEC notebooks will be secured before malware gets downloaded by Windows applications. This is possible because virus definition files are updated in ManageSpace while preventing Windows access to the network.
