Lanamark Debuts Storage Design Module for Lanamark Suite

June 3, 2009 by Robin Wauters Leave a Comment

Lanamark today announced availability of the Storage Design Module for Lanamark Suite, which enables solution providers to design the underlying storage infrastructure for both virtualized desktops and servers.

The Storage Design Module offers advanced capabilities for assessing disk space and disk IO requirements, automates virtual disk sizing and provides a rich selection of HBAs, SAN switches and storage arrays from major vendors. It enables solution providers to design and compare what-if scenarios across multiple server and storage configurations. This ensures that enterprises are always presented with cost-effective, highly optimized storage options that maximize return-on-investment from virtual infrastructure.

Once the data collection phase is completed and virtualization candidates are identified, solution providers can approximate central storage requirements by analyzing a rich set of disk space and disk IO metrics. These metrics are also used for automatically sizing virtual disks and balancing workloads across target servers to minimize disk IO resource contention. The module supports HBAs, SAN switches and storage arrays from Brocade, Cisco Systems, Dell, EMC, Emulex, Hitachi, HP, IBM, NetApp, Pillar Data Systems, QLogic, Sun Microsystems and Xiotech. It also allows EMC partners to export data for analysis into the EMC ET Tool.

Release: Desktop Analysis Pack for Lanamark Suite

April 7, 2009 by Robin Wauters Leave a Comment

Lanamark today announced availability of the Desktop Analysis Pack for Lanamark Suite. This new analysis pack is designed to help solution providers analyze enterprise desktop environments, identify candidate desktops for virtualization and recommend optimal resource allocation to virtual desktops in order to maximize end user adoption and satisfaction.

The Desktop Analysis Pack distinguishes desktops from laptops to identify mobile users and determines associations between workstations and external devices such as monitors, printers and scanners. It leverages the Lanamark Software Intelligence (LSI) technology to recognize software applications installed versus ones actually used across the enterprise. The combined information about desktop hardware and software enables channel partners to identify desktops most suitable for virtualization, determine what type of thin client devices would be most appropriate for end users and recommend how software applications should be allocated to minimize licensing costs.

Once the analysis phase is completed and candidate desktops for virtualization are identified, solution providers can then leverage the Lanamark Server Virtualization Design Module to build optimal virtual desktop infrastructure solutions across leading virtualization and hardware platforms. The module allows what-if scenarios to be compared side-by-side with comprehensive TCO calculations and enables channel partners to build end-to-end solutions with server, storage and thin client components from Brocade, Dell, EMC, Emulex, Hitachi, HP, IBM, NetApp, QLogic, Sun Microsystems, Wyse and Xiotech.

Lanamark Launches VReady, A Free Virtualization Readiness Assessment Service

November 11, 2008 by Robin Wauters Leave a Comment

Lanamark, a global provider of virtualization capacity planning and IT assessment software, today announced Lanamark VReady, a virtualization readiness assessment service to help enterprises jump-start virtualization projects without upfront costs. The service enables customers to capture desktop and server workload trends, measure data center utilization and determine warranty coverage of existing servers.

Lanamark VReady allows enterprises to create a free readiness assessment, monitor desktops and servers for up-to ten business days and then obtain a VReady Assessment Report with a summary of data center trends. The report also provides information on the age and warranty coverage of servers so that customers can assess the risk of continuing to run workloads on potentially out-of-warranty hardware. To accelerate virtualization projects, customers can then upgrade to an in-depth VAssessment service delivered by Lanamark Solution Providers.

Lanamark Debuts Virtualization and IT Assessment Suite Lanamark Suite

September 30, 2008 by Robin Wauters Leave a Comment

Lanamark today announced general availability and product packaging for its flagship software solution, Lanamark Suite, after announcing limited availability last June. The company also launched its global solution provider program that will help value-added resellers, system integrators and consultants accelerate delivery of virtualization services across desktops and servers.

Lanamark Suite 2008 is now generally available in Professional and Team editions with per workload per assessment licensing. Licenses are only required for analysis in Lanamark Studio after data about application workloads and server resources has been collected by the Lanamark Explorer. This allows solution providers to accelerate sales cycles by starting virtualization and IT assessments for customers without upfront licensing costs.

Retail product pricing per workload per assessment starts at $40 for Lanamark Suite Professional Edition and $50 for Lanamark Suite Team Edition.

Lanamark Launches With Powerful Capacity Planning Software Suite

June 19, 2008 by Robin Wauters 1 Comment

Lanamark, a provider of software solutions for accelerating virtualization services delivery, today announced limited availability of its flagship software solution Lanamark Suite. The company, a privately held corporation headquartered in Toronto, Canada, also announced a Lanamark Early Access Program (LEAP) for VARs, consultants and system integrators.

Lanamark Suite consists of software applications for discovering, monitoring, analyzing and optimizing heterogeneous IT infrastructure. It allows Lanamark channel partners to deliver virtualization services quickly and consistently across multiple hypervisors, protect customer data captured for analysis and differentiate their offerings by providing customers with “unique, sophisticated and unbiased service deliverables”.

“Lanamark Suite enables service providers to deliver hypervisor-agnostic virtualization services that help their customers accelerate adoption of virtualized environments,” said Mark Angelo, CEO and founder of Lanamark. “Today’s solutions are not designed for services delivery – they are challenging and time-consuming to deploy, use and license. Furthermore, these solutions are very intrusive to customer environments and do not adequately secure and protect customer data. Our software is designed from the ground up to address these challenges and remove non-value-add activities. We enable our channel partners to focus on areas where they can leverage their extensive knowledge of IT infrastructure and add the most value for customers – analysis, design and optimization of virtualized and physical infrastructure.”

Angelo comes from PlateSpin, where he was Product Line Manager for PowerRecon, and recently from VMLogix, where he was Director of Business Development.

Lanamark Suite consists of:

  • Lanamark Portal – for managing customer accounts, engagements and assessments online. Using the Lanamark Portal, service providers can also administer teams of consultants and acquire individual licenses for workload analysis in Lanamark Studio.
  • Lanamark Explorer – for truly agent-less collection of inventory and performance data about application workloads and server resources. Lanamark Explorer is a light-weight and easy-to-install application that does not require licenses upfront. The data it captures is stored in a secure snapshot that can only be unlocked by the service provider performing the assessment.
  • Lanamark Studio – for rich analysis and reporting on application workloads and server resources. Using templates, consultants can identify virtualization candidates and automatically publish powerful charts and reports that map directly onto assessment deliverables, consistently across engagements.
