Pano Logic Sets Up Shop In India

August 26, 2011 by Robin Wauters Leave a Comment

Pano Logic, provider of zero client desktop virtualization solutions, has announced its formal expansion into the Indian market, distributing through Pano Logic Technologies India Pvt. Ltd.

The latter will appoint resellers in all the states of India and will provide sales and technical training for its partners. Opening the Indian market places Pano Logic into 20 countries globally.

The Pano System’s solid-state device has no processor, no storage, no memory and no operating system. As a result, it completely eliminates endpoint management, enabling the benefits of centralized management with a cloud ready device. Zero client devices also consume 95 percent less power than PCs and are unable to store data locally, minimizing security risks.

To commemorate its expansion into India, Pano Logic recently sponsored the Devas Snake boat team in the Nehru Trophy Boat Race – which they won.

NComputing Wins Massive Contract in India

October 13, 2008 by Robin Wauters 1 Comment

NComputing, provider of low-cost computing solutions, today announced that it was chosen to supply a massive 5,000-school educational computing initiative in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, per VentureBeat. The initiative will provide computing access to 1.8 million children throughout the state. The win marks the largest single deployment of NComputing’s solution in India.

By leveraging NComputing, the government expects to save $20 million in up-front and ongoing costs. The government will also use 90% less electricity compared to a traditional all-PC solution.

The NComputing solution is based on a simple fact: today’s PCs are so powerful that the vast majority of applications only use a small fraction of the computer’s capacity. NComputing technology creates multiple virtual desktops on a single PC so that many users can tap the unused capacity and share it as if each person had their own computer. Andhra Pradesh chose the NComputing X300 solution, which enables up to seven users to simultaneously share one PC.

The computing labs will be used to teach computer skills and office productivity (spreadsheets, word processing) as well as subjects like reading and math. The entire system will run on the Microsoft Windows Server operating system and use Microsoft Office Suite.

The project is based on an innovative outsourcing model. The Andhra Pradesh government will outsource the entire project for five years to leading educational IT companies, including Educomp, Everonn, NIIT, and Social Computers. The model is referred to as Build, Operate, and Transfer (BOT) and requires the companies to install, staff, and manage the labs. This arrangement helps ensure that the labs are installed quickly and performance benchmarks are met. The five-year period also enables school staff to develop their own competencies in managing the labs and computer-aided teaching.

NComputing’s technology is used by 20,000 organizations in more than 90 countries. In the United States, NComputing has been deployed by over 4,000 school districts in classrooms, computer labs, and libraries. Although smaller in scale than Andhra Pradesh, school districts in North America face many of the same challenges including tight budgets, demand for wider computing access, limited IT support staff, and a desire to use “green” technology.

Dell and VMware Looking For Sustainable Growth in South Asia

March 25, 2008 by Robin Wauters Leave a Comment

South Asia is a booming market, and with the US seemingly tumbling into a deep, long-term recession, it’s no surprise to see a lot of companies aiming for growth in both market share & revenue in the Far East.

VMware is investing $ 100 million by 2010 to expand its Bangalore, India-based research and development (R&D) operations, as announced today by VMware president and CEO Diane Greene at a news conference in Bangalore. VMware already has a strong presence across India with offices in Bangalore, Pune, Chennai, Delhi, and Mumbai.

VMware plans a brand new, state-of-the-art 82,000 square foot development center in Bangalore (including a 4,000 square foot computer lab) and aims to double its India-based engineering organization to more than 1,000 people in the next two years.

Meanwhile, Dell is also readying itself for a decline in sales from the US, historically its most prolific revenue base. Since its Chinese consumer sales last year were up 54 %, three times the industry average, Dell plants to cultivate this new audience and feed the retail stores. Dell India plans to launch low-cost desktop and notebook computers that are customized for India in the second week of April.

“Today we are a $700 million business in India,” Dell India Vice President and General Manager Rajan Anandan said at a news conference. He added the company will soon announce plans to establish retail operations in the country. In India, Dell follows its traditional model of selling computers over the Internet or by telephone. “At present, we are not into retail operations in India, but that’s going to change,” Mr. Anandan said.

Dell has two factories in China and a design center in Shanghai and it’s planning on increasing the amount of components it buys in China by 27 % this year to $ 23 billion. The company is also reportedly planning on increasing the number of laptop models it produces by 50 %.
