Zero Client Desktop Virtualization Company Pano Logic Releases Pano System 4

January 12, 2011 by Robin Wauters Leave a Comment

Pano Logic, provider of zero client desktop virtualization solutions, this morning announced Pano System 4, a zero client device that it says will replace PCs and thin clients with server-side software flexible enough to support all three leading hypervisor platforms (Citrix XenDesktop, Microsoft Hyper-V and VMware vSphere/View).

John Kish, CEO of Pano Logic, commented:

“The consumerization of IT is becoming a powerful catalyst for desktop virtualization, and as network technology matures and security vendors catch up, cloud computing can finally deliver upon its promise to the desktop.

This new paradigm requires a desktop architecture that works independently of the underlying hypervisor infrastructure and is interoperable with any management system. That is what we are giving customers today with Pano System 4.”

Pano Logic is including a year of maintenance and support with all new purchases of the Pano System.

Breaking: NetApp To Acquire Akorri Networks In All-Cash Transaction

January 12, 2011 by Robin Wauters Leave a Comment

NetApp today announced that it is to acquire Akorri Networks, which enables IT organizations to increase virtualization ROI through optimization and planning of their virtual and physical infrastructure resources.

Terms of the agreement were not disclosed, but it was all-cash, NetApp says. Akorri was founded in 2005 and has raised $48.7 million in funding to date.

Akorri’s BalancePoint software uses cross-domain analysis and analytics to help companies manage, optimize, and plan performance and utilization across their data center infrastructure. BalancePoint provides visibility into the root cause of performance issues through drill-down into server and storage resources and the ability to understand both server and storage virtualization.

The acquisition is expected to close early in NetApp’s fourth fiscal quarter, subject to the satisfaction of customary closing conditions.

So Long, Alessandro, And Thanks For Breaking New Ground With Virtualization.info

January 3, 2011 by Robin Wauters Leave a Comment

After running virtualization.info, which has long been regarded as the leading resource for independent virtualization industry news and analysis, for a total of seven years, Alessandro Perilli on the last day of 2010 announced that he’s starting a new job today.

Perilli is now a Research Director for Gartner, where he will be covering cloud computing, virtualization and datacenter technologies in the firm’s IT Professionals research team.

As a result, Perilli will be stepping down from his role with virtualization.info. Kenneth van Surksum will be replacing him as editor of the site, as well as sister site cloudcomputing.info.

He has big shoes to fill.

We wish both Perilli and van Surksum all the best in 2011 and beyond, and will continue to subscribe to Virtualization.info, which has long been providing solid news on the booming industry we actively track as well.

Godspeed, guys.
