May 16, 2011 by Robin Wauters Leave a Comment

Kaspersky Lab, a developer of secure content and threat management solutions, recently announced that it will support VMware vShield Endpoint from later this year and offer comprehensive protection for virtual machines from the latest malware threats.

VMware vShield Endpoint streamlines and accelerates anti-virus and anti-malware processing. It improves performance and provides comprehensive security by eliminating the need for agents in every virtual machine. In addition, the solution optimises resource utilisation by offloading anti-virus processing to a single security virtual machine.

Citrix Systems recently debuted NetScaler SDX, a new virtualized networking platform designed from the ground up to serve as the “front door” for virtual datacenters and clouds.

With the NetScaler SDX platform, customers can run numerous virtualized NetScaler instances on a single purpose-built physical appliance with full multi-service, multi-tenant support.

Each virtual instance is a complete NetScaler environment, incorporating all the functions needed to deliver apps and services with the best performance, security and reliability, including load balancing, caching, compression, SSL VPN, SSL offload, federated identity and app firewall.

Red Hat And IBM Join Forces To Advance ‘Open Virtualization’

May 16, 2011 by Robin Wauters Leave a Comment

Red Hat and IBM recently announced that they are working together to make products and solutions based on KVM technology. Together, the companies are driving adoption of the open source virtualization technology through joint development projects and enablement of the KVM ecosystem.

KVM open source virtualization technology allows a business to create multiple virtual versions of Linux and Windows environments on the same server.

KVM-based products and solutions, incorporating comprehensive management capabilities and scaling from local servers to large public clouds, help businesses save money by consolidating and sharing IT resources without the expense and limitations of a proprietary solution.

Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization, designed to enable pervasive datacenter virtualization, combines a centralized virtualization management system with advanced features as well as a KVM-based hypervisor.

Planned areas of collaboration between Red Hat and IBM include increasing the scope and adoption of the Red Hat Virtualization Management APIs, and building a community to encourage the use of the Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization Manager APIs by third-party virtualization products.

Together, the companies will also drive adoption of the open source virtualization technology through jointly developing key virtualization and cloud management interfaces and using the APIs in their respective management products, including Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization Manager, IBM Director and Tivoli software.

The APIs will address cloud, datacenter automation, virtual storage and networking, virtualization security and virtual appliance management.

BMC Software Acquires Web App Performance Management Software Company Coradiant

May 16, 2011 by Robin Wauters Leave a Comment

BMC Software recently moved to acquire Coradiant, a provider of end-user experience and web application performance monitoring.

This acquisition enhances BMC’s ability to offer businesses a 360-degree view of service performance – from end-user experience and behavior to infrastructure.

The new BMC End User Experience Management solution based on Coradiant’s technology is to enable business and IT service managers to see and understand how application performance affects end-user behavior and ultimately the business by providing complete visibility into real-time, end-to-end performance of enterprise, cloud and SaaS-based applications.

By monitoring the end-user’s experience, organizations can protect revenue, enhance productivity and ensure operational stability for their business-critical applications.

Coradiant also brings partnerships, such as the one with Akamai to deliver solutions that manage, optimize and ensure the value of application performance acceleration delivered via the cloud.

BMC says an “aggressive product integration plan” is already underway.
