Optimize Your Virtual Data Center: Radware Announces VirtualDirector

September 15, 2008 by Robin Wauters Leave a Comment

Radware, provider of integrated application delivery solutions for networking, today announced its new optimization solution for the virtualized environment, VirtualDirector, as part of a larger initiative – Radware’s Business-Smart Data Center strategy – designed to ensure the alignment of key business drivers for the next generation data center.

The core of Radware’s Business-Smart Data Center strategy is providing its customers with tailor-made application infrastructure solutions for next generation data centers to help them overcome IT complexities and ensure cost effective procurement and full investment protection.

The launch of VirtualDirector is the first in a series of announcements that will be made over the next 18 months. VirtualDirector is an optimization solution for the virtualized data center – providing adaptive and dynamic allocation of resources based on business events, to guarantee SLAs and improving response time of applications. VirtualDirector aligns data center operations with business policies by dynamically allocating resources on demand to automatically serve customer’s best needs for SLAs in a virtualized
environment, a key area of investment for companies today. In addition, to save costs, VirtualDirector optimizes the use of data center resources to further generate energy and cooling savings.

Moving forward and with the arrival of more cloud-based services, VirtualDirector’s tight integration with Radware`s ADC solution provides a comprehensive set of features that enable companies to optimize all of their virtualized datacenters, globally. In cases where the local resources cannot provide the desired QoE for specific applications, the solution redirects the traffic of the specific applications to a cloud based service provider or to a secondary data center. By redirecting traffic to a remote location, local resources are freed to serve the rest of the applications while remote resources are utilized, as needed, to add capacity and support the desired QoE.

VirtualDirector, integrated with VMware VirtualCenter, is available now for ordering. Pricing is available upon request.

BakBone Introduces NetVault: Backup 8.1 With Full Adoption of VMware Technology

May 21, 2008 by Robin Wauters 1 Comment

BakBone Software has released a new version of its flagship data protection solution, NetVault: Backup 8.1, adding support for individual VMware ESX Servers as well as full virtual data centers, all integrated and managed from the NetVault: Backup GUI. Users do not need to create and run scripts, giving BakBone customers the flexibility to deploy data protection in virtual environments and manage the solution under one umbrella.

BakBone

In addition to new VMware capabilities, BakBone now also provides full support for Novell‘s Open Enterprise Server (OES) 2. BakBone claims to offer the broadest Linux capabilities in the storage management market, supporting more leading Linux distributions and applications than any other data protection software vendor.

According to the press release, the highlights for NetVault: Backup 8.1 include

Full VMware Consolidated Backup (VCB) Support

  • Offers the flexibility to protect virtual machines deployed on a VMware ESX Server or multiple VMware ESX Servers from a VCB proxy server
  • Provides protection for virtual machine images or individual files on Windows guest operating system without the need for complex scripting
  • Tracks virtual machine migration with VMotion

Full VMware virtual machine backups

  • Provides virtual machines with protection from disasters, media failure and data corruption
  • Protects the entire virtual environment in case of a disaster, including log and configuration files as well as the VMDK data files

Increased flexibility

  • Gives administrators automatic integration with supported devices, including a VTL, SAN, NDMP or locally attached drives
  • Offers greater granularity for Windows on VMware by allowing customers to backup and restore individual files within virtual machines
  • Empowers storage administrators to create comprehensive, flexible backup policies without the need to understand VCB internals or create complex scripts

NetVault: Backup 8.1 extends capabilities beyond the backup and recovery of virtual environments. The solution reduces the load on ESX Servers and simplifies virtual environment protection by consolidating backups through single servers. This is especially important for businesses that need to reduce data center energy demands as they consolidate hardware.

Trigence Signs Strategic Partnership with Virtualization Consolidation Academy

January 31, 2008 by Robin Wauters Leave a Comment

Trigence , another provider in application virtualization solutions, today announced a partnership with the Virtualization Consolidation Academy to utilize the academy’s facilities to make application virtualization technology visible and understandable to end-users. VCA evaluates different technologies and tests solutions for feasibility, compatibility, implementation and user-friendliness. Additionally, VCA trains partners and large enterprises throughout the region on virtualization technology and best practices.

The VCA is a new endeavor that includes many virtualization solutions that are proving the value of the virtual data center. VCA’s virtual data center is an initiative that presents the data center as a centrally managed service which virtualizes all hardware and software resources at the backend. Recent variations of the virtual data center model include grid, fabric, and utility computing. The ultimate goal in all variations is a cost effective solution with an uninterrupted quality-of-service.

“Our partnership with the Virtualization Consolidation Academy is further proof of our global commitment to provide the solutions data center managers need to get control of their applications in ways that simplify operations and require fewer resources,” said John Hamilton, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Trigence. “The European market is becoming an important focus for us, and we are excited to leverage all that the VCA has to offer to reach those companies in need of a comprehensive application virtualization solution for their data centers.”

Trigence claims companies around the world use them to:

— Manage and migrate Solaris, Linux and Windows applications throughout the data center

— Consolidate both Physical and Virtual server environments

— Do a better job of managing all applications throughout their lifecycle from development and delivery to maintenance and modernization

Trigence is different from hyper-visor and other virtualization technologies because it encapsulates the application at a level above the OS. The result is a completely virtualized environment where application capsules now have the freedom to be moved and managed without reconfiguration to either the application or the server.

To be watched!

Update: Tarry Singh has an interview with COO & EVP of Trigence, John Hamilton .
